Stitched With Cheer – making cards with scraps

I was making up some demo cards using the gorgeous Stitched With Cheer kit ready for my December classes. I love that the kit includes kraft envelopes and dsp liners but noticed that a good 3” of the liner was hidden inside the envelope, so I cut it off. I used these off cuts to make simple cards.

I cut the 3” strips of dsp in half to give me 6 pieces 1½” by 5½”. Using the Triple Banner Punch I pennanted the ends of all the strips. I then cut the strips into different lengths.

1-dscf8540For the first card I sewed the strips together at the top with gold baker’s twine and tied a bow on the right side. I added the sewn piece, using dimensionals, to a Whisper White card base and added a sentiment from he Stitched With Cheer stamp set in Emerald Envy ink. This card was then entered into our monthly team challenge – this month’s theme is ‘stitching’.

1-dscf8545I wrapped some Emerald Envy Bakers Twine at the top of the remaining 3 strips and tied a bow before adding to a Crumb Cake card base. The same sentiment and ink colour was used.

We all have off cuts from pieces of dsp that we can’t bear to throw away, crafters are notoriously thrifty!!!

I hope you like these projects and thank you for stopping by. Come again soon

Star of Light Christmas Class

The November classes featured the gorgeous Star of Wonder stamp set and co-ordinating Starlight Thinlit Dies and non-traditional Christmas colours. I don’t know about you but I get a bit tired of red and green after a while and fancied something a little more modern and decided that Elegant Eggplant, Pool Party, Whisper White and Copper Foil would look amazing.

1-dscf8405The first card involved die cutting the solid star shape from a panel of Whisper White cardstock. This panel was then adhered to the Pool Party cardstock layer which was then added to an Elegant Eggplant card base. We then inset the detailed star die cut from Copper Foil and looking sensational especially when we added a large Basic Rhinestone to the centre. We added a sentiment from the same stamp set using Elegant Eggplant ink and called the card finished.

1-dscf8406For the second card we stamped the fantastic ‘swoosh’ stamp along with the smaller single star onto the Whisper White panel using Versamark Ink covered it with Copper Embossing Powder  then melted it using the Heat Tool and yes I did use the Embossing Buddy before stamping…… go me!  We then added random stars using Pool Party ink. The whole piece was added to a layer of Copper Foil with Tombow glue. This panel was then added to a Pool Party card base. We die cut the solid star from Elegant Eggplant cardstock and topped it with one of the smaller die-cut detailed Copper stars and added a Rhinestone to the centre before adhering it to the front of the card.

Top Tip – we die cut the detailed stars for all three projects from this layer, no one will know once the stamped panel is adhered over the top and it makes the best use of expensive, speciality cardstock.

1-dscf8407The DVD holder was based on a YouTube video by Tracey May – Bedlam and Butterflies –  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWzqbertbQs

We covered a 10¾” square of Whisper White cardstock in randomly stamped  ‘swoosh’s’ in Pool Party ink and the tiny trio of stars in Elegant Eggplant ink. The belly band was made using Elegant Eggplant cardstock with strip of Pool Party Stitched Satin Ribbon along the centre. I took the solid Whisper White star, saved from the first card and added a large detailed star cut from the Pool Party cardstock and topped it with a Copper Foil star and added the whole star to a label die cut from the Lots of Labels Framelit dies and used this to close the belly band as the sides don’t quite meet.

Cookie Cutter Christmas Class

October went by so quickly I forgot to show the projects the ladies made during the October classes. We used the fabulous Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp set and the co-ordinating Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. This bundle has turned out to be so popular.

For the first card we stamped the sweet little Rudolph image using Crumb Cake ink on Crumb Cake cardstock. We rounded the top right corner using the Project Life Corner Rounder. The panel was then added to a Real Red cardstock layer with a rounded upper right corner and the whole piece added to a Thick Whisper White card base. A piece of retired Bermuda Bay dsp was added – you could use the current Brights Designer Paper Stack – to the front of the card. We stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set in Real Red ink onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock and added this onto the Bermuda Bay piece. The Rudolph image was stamped again in Crumb Cake onto a scrap of Whisper White and punched using the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch along with the small bow which was stamped in Bermuda Bay ink and added using Tombow adhesive. The Gold Wink of Stella Pen gave Rudolph shimmery antlers and we gave him a Red Glimmer red nose. A small Red Glimmer star was punched out using the Star Confetti Punch and added to the sentiment.

1-dscf8253For the second card we embossed a piece of Real Red Cardstock using the Cable Knit Embossing Folder, this gives such a cool 3D effect, gorgeous. The gingerbread people were stamped in Crumb Cake and Early Espresso ink onto Crumb Cake cardstock and punched out using the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. We stamped the bows in Real Red and Bermuda Bay onto scraps of Whisper White before punching. 2 of the punched Red Glimmer stars were added as buttons to the Crumb Cake image. The gingerbread people were added to a Delicate White Doily. The sentiment was stamped in Bermuda Bay ink onto Whisper White cardstock and added to the bottom of the card…….gorgeous.

1-dscf8254The 3rd project is a hanging gift card holder which will look great on the Christmas Tree. The gift card is die cut using the Gift Card Envelope Framelit and the Big Shot. We stamped all over the die cut piece using the snowflake stamp from the Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set and 2nd generation Bermuda Bay ink. The Santa image was stamped in Archival Basic Black ink and coloured in using Real Red, Blushing Bride and Basic Black markers. The buckle was added with the Gold Wink of Stella Pen before punching out the image with the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. We die cut a circle from Pool Party Cardstock and a scalloped circle from Real Red cardstock using the Layered Circle Dies. The Pool Party circle was stamped with 2nd generation Bermuda Bay ink before adding to the Real Red layer and the santa added with dimensionals. The Top flap of the gift card holder was punched with the ¼” Hand Held Punch, Linen Thread looped though with a strip of Gold Sequin Trim added for a bit of bling. We added a strip of retired gold washi tape and some punched Red Glimmer stars.

Totally Trees – Thinking of You

October hasn’t been a great month for my family. One of my lovely uncles died after a long battle with cancer and the day before his funeral we were told another uncle and his younger son have also been diagnosed with this horrible disease. I wanted to send my uncle and cousin a message of support as they start their chemotherapy journeys.

I had recently seen a YouTube video by Jenny Hall (of jennystampsup.com) using the Painter’s Palette stamp set with the set called Sheltering Tree – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCuv7CyCeho – I decided to CASE (copy and share everything) the card using the Totally Trees stamp set which was still out on my table.

1-dscf8441I stamped the artist’s easel from the Painter’s Palette stamp set using Archival Basic Black ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock. A square of Very Vanilla, exactly the same size as the interior of the easel was die cut using the Layering Squares Framelit dies.

The trees were stamped in Soft Suede ink onto this small Very Vanilla panel. I added the autumnal leaves by stamping the tiny spray of leaves in Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green, Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie and Delightful Dijon inks. I added the ground at the base of the trees using 3rd generation Garden Green ink. The stamped panel was added to the easel using dimensionals.

1-dscf8442The sentiment comes from the Rose Wonder stamp set and was stamped using Archival Basic Black ink below the easel. The whole panel was added to a layer of Basic Black cardstock leaving a ⅛” border, then added to the Crumb Cake card base using Tombow adhesive.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. Hope you like the project I shared and that you will drop by again soon
