Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic stamp sets by Stampin' Up used for the Kissing Technique

Watercolor Wings meets the ‘Kissing Technique’

Today I have been using a couple of our retiring stamp sets Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic, both fabulous, versatile sets.

Kissing Technique

I inked up the large ‘solid butterfly’ image from the Watercolor Wings stamp set in So Saffron ink and inked up the large ‘foliage’ stamp from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set before bringing them together so that the detailed foliage was stamped onto the solid butterfly. This is known as the ‘kissing technique’. Such a striking effect.

I then stamped the solid butterfly onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock which I then die cut using the Bold Butterfly dies and my Big Shot. I stamped the butterfly ‘body’ onto the die cut piece in Real Red ink. I find it easier to line up after I die cut rather than stamping it before die cutting.

I place a panel of  Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” onto the front of a Thick Whisper White card base. I then inked up the foliage image from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set again with the So Saffron ink then rolled the edge around in the Real Red ink to give a two toned look. I stamped the image in the bottom right hand corner and the top left hand corner over lapping the edge of the smaller Whisper White panel.

This panel was then added to a Real Red layer, 5½” by 3¾” using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I laid the die cut butterfly in position and stamped the antennae in So Saffron ink and the spotty trail in So Saffron ink and Real Red ink. The sentiment was stamped in Real Red ink in the lower left hand corner. The whole panel was then added to the Thick Whisper White card base. Finally, the butterfly was added to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

This is such a striking technique, why don’t you give it a try.

Spring/Summer cards and a lidded box

Easter/Spring Adult Education All Day Event

Thank you to all the lovely ladies who came to my Adult Education Easter/Spring themed event on Sunday 25th March. I am sharing today the projects they made. I had set up 5 project tables where they made either 2 cards or a simple lidded box + the sweet little bird house featured in the post on the 23rd March.

On arrival each lady was given a pack containing all the pre-cut cardstock layers and card bases they needed to complete the card projects and during the day they moved from table to table making all the projects. The lidded box was pre-scored for them and just needed to be trimmed, put together and decorated. They did use the Simply Scored Scoring Tool to score the cardstock for the birdhouse and assembled this from scratch.

At the table featuring the Watercolor Wings set they were able to try out 4 step stamping using the new Stamparatus  stamp positioning tool which was a resounding success, everybody loved it! They also used the sponge brayer plus an embossing folder and Big Shots to die cut lots of pieces. They also used the Stampin’ Blends on a couple of the projects and really enjoyed using them.

Watercolor Wings classes

Lovely classes this month using the Watercolor Wings stamp set and the Bold Butterfly and Basic Butterfly framelits. We made a lovely ‘book style’ box with 4 matching cards and envelopes.

1-DSCF7829I really wanted to use Sweet Sugarplum as my main accent colour and much to my surprise ended up choosing Chocolate Chip cardstock for the box itself. Chocolate Chip is my least used shade of brown, don’t know why but it really goes well with the sugarplum, the colours look gorgeous together.

1-DSCF7830The inside pockets of the box were made using Sweet Sugarplum cardstock. The right pockets holds 4 decorated cards using the same stamp set and the left pocket holds 4 co-ordinating envelopes.

1-DSCF7832The card bases are made using Thick Whisper White cardstock. Each card has a panel of either Chocolate Chip cardstock or Sweet Sugarplum cardstock. The images are stamped in Blushing Bride, Sweet Sugarplum and Chocolate Chip ink onto regular Whisper White cardstock and I added some iridescent sequins from my stash for a bit of sparkle.

1-DSCF7829We die cut a butterfly for the front of the box using my Big Shot and added a Vellum filigree die cut butterfly over the top to give added dimension. The box is closed using some of the gorgeous Sweet Sugarplum ruched ribbon which ties beautifully.
