Swirly Bird makes a gorgeous congratulations card

Great excitement over the weekend when 2 of my team members promoted to Bronze Elite. I just had to make them a card each and send them a package of goodies to celebrate their achievement.

Over the weekend I came also cameacross a Youtube video by Rose Castillo – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9jFRn7S0L8 – using the Swirly Bird stamp set. I have to confess this is a stamp set that I bought last year after I saw so many amazing projects made with it on Pinterest…………and I have never used it! Shame on me…… I loved Rose’s idea of stamping on letters to give them some interest and definition and thought I would give it a go.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Swirly Bird and Large Letters by Stampin’ Up!

For my take on her card I die cut the letters using the Large Letters Framelits Dies and Whisper White cardstock. Using the smallest of the stamps from the Swirly Bird stamp set I added the flowers in Sweet Sugarplum ink, the leaves in Wild Wasabi ink and the stems in Perfect Plum ink. I was really happy with the way they looked. I also die cut 3 more of each of the letters from the Whisper White cardstock and glued them together with Tombw Liquid Adhesive to give a 4 layer stack with the stamped piece on the top. This gives lovely dimension to the letters without the hassle of cutting up Stampin’ Dimensionals.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Swirly Bird stamp set and Large Letter Dies by Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the sentiment from the One Wild Ride stamp set in Versamark ink after using my Embossing Buddy on a Whisper White panel. I covered the sentiment with Copper Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool. Love the shine this gives and copper is the nearest we have to a bronze colour.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Swirly Bird Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I lined my letters up above the sentiment and stuck them down with a little Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I decided to back the Whisper White panel with a layer of the Copper Foil Paper adding to the luxurious look of the card. The whole topper was then added using Stampin’ Dimensionals to a Crumb Cake card base. I added a Whisper White panel to the inside and stamped the same images down the side of the inner panel and also on the envelope.

I really love the clean and simple look of this card and the pop of shiny copper really works. I am so glad Rose’s video inspired me to use this great stamp set.

Fiesta Time – a book fold card for our team challenge

This month’s team challenge is to make a fun fold card. So, I had a lovely time this afternoon trawling through Pinterest …….love Pinterest……looking at lots of lovely different styles of cards, so many to choose from.

The card I really loved was made by Patsy Waggoner – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__3yu3Lu_7o&t=694s– . She demonstrated a book fold card, a card type I have never made and used the Birthday Fiesta stamp set and co-ordinating Fiesta Time Framelits which I love.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Birthday Fiesta – Stampin’ Up!

I changed the colours to Tempting Turquoise, Sweet Sugarplum, So Saffron and Cucumber Crush. I didn’t use an embossing folder on the Whisper White front panel, I liked it better plain.  I loved the cactus’ which I stamped in Cucumber Crush adding a cute little Sweet Sugarplum flower to the middle one which I had raised up on Dimensionals. The sentiment was stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of So Saffron cardstock and the ends were flagged using the Triple Banner Punch.  The bunting was stamped in Tempting Turquoise, Sweet Sugarplum, So Saffron and Cucumber Crush.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Birthday Fiesta by Stampin’ Up!

For the inside I chose Sweet Sugarplum cardstock, Check out Patsy’s video for the dimensions and the instructions for cutting and scoring. I cut out the thin strips of bunting using So Saffron, Cucumber Crush and Tempting Turquoise cardstock and added them to the top panel. I don’t have the dsp pack that Patsy used so I made my own by stamping the thin bunting in my 4 chosen colours onto Whisper White cardstock before cutting into 2 small panels and a long strip.

The gorgeous Llama was stamped with Crumb Cake ink onto Crumb Cake cardstock. The sentiment was stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black and die cut using the Stitched Shapes Framelit dies and the Big Shot.

I really like the card, it looks quite impressive standing on a shelf.

Beatles & Bugs – Get Well Card

I have been working with the Beatles & Bugs stamp set, available in the 2017 Spring/Summer catalogue and what a cute set it is. I really wish I had had this set when my son was a small boy, he would have loved it.

I used it today to make a get well card, couldn’t resist the idea of ‘having a bug’ …….. I know I need help………

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beatles & Bugs – Stampin’ Up!

I wanted to have the bugs crawling out from under something and chose to die cut a circle using the Layering Circle Framelits. I very lightly drew around the inside of the chosen die on my Whisper White panel (and rubbed the pencil lines out later) so that I could work out the placement of my bugs. I chose the bug with long legs and antennae …….creepy……..then added some of the ants to give the card a bit more ‘movement’. The bugs and ants were stamped using Archival basic Gray ink and were then coloured in using Daffodil Delight and Wild Wasabi markers.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beatles & Bugs by Stampin’ Up!

I couldn’t find a sentiment that I was appropriate in any of my stamp sets so I found a font I liked on my PC and printed the words onto Whisper White cardstock and then die cut them out. I die cut a larger Wild Wasabi circle to frame the sentiment and added it to the stamped panel using Dimensionals.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beatles & Bugs by Stampin’ Up!

I added the stamped layer to a panel of Pacific Point with Tombow Liquid Adhesive before adding the whole piece to a Daffodil Delight card base. I deliberately added each layer crookedly to add to the feeling that everything was out of sorts. I added a trail of ants up the inside of the card and the envelope….. eeeerrgghhhh.

I really like the idea of the card but in hindsight I think the Daffodil Delight is a bit bright, maybe a more neutral colour would have worked better. What do you think?

Dragonfly Dreams meets Falling in Love – Such Gorgeousness…..

I’ve been playing with the beautiful Falling In Love designer series paper (dsp) lately – we used it in last weeks Stamp-a-Stack and have been itching to use the paper in combination with the new Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and the co-ordinating Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits.  I thought the lovely soft colours would go well with the ethereal dragonflies.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Dragonfly Dreams – Stampin Up

I chose the pink ‘bokeh’ patterned paper for my first card. I love creating this effect with inks, masks and sponge daubers and have used this technique in a class before…….. might try it again soon.  The colours used in the dsp are lovely, Soft Sky, Sweet Sugarplum, Blushing Bride, Very Vanilla and Sahara Sand.

I chose a Blushing Bride cardstock base and mounted the dsp onto a panel of Chocolate Chip cardstock before adding it to the card base with Tombow liquid Adhesive. I felt it needed a darker layer to set off the paler colours and Chocolate Chip has a slight pink tone to it.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Dragonfly Dreams – Stampin Up

I wanted to add a bit of WOW to the card so die cut the cute string of small dragonflies using the fabulous Copper Foil Paper which is so shiny, love it. I added the dragonflies to the card from using tiny pieces of dimensionals to lift them up and create shadow. I added the sentiment from the same stamp set using Chocolate Chip ink.

I love this card so much, not sure I will be able to give this one away……..

Custom Tee – makes great masculine cards

I have been making a very simple masculine birthday card today using the Custom Tee stamp set by Stampin’ Up! – this set is available in the Spring/Summer 2017 catalogue. I have also used the Designer Tee stamp set which co-ordinates with the Custom Tee set and is one of the options in the Sale-A- Bration brochure – you can choose one free item from this brochure for every £45 you spend until the end of March 2017.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin Up – Custom Tee stamp set

I stamped the larger T-shirt image from the Custom Tee stamp set using Pacific Point ink onto Whisper White cardstock. The sentiment from the Designer Tee stamp set was stamped using the same ink and the T-shirt was then die cut using the co-ordinating T-shirt Builder framelit dies.

I added the die cut piece to a panel of Whisper White cardstock using dimensionals and stamped the Happy Birthday (I love the font) from the Designer Tee stamp set beneath. I add a strip of Silver Foil Paper to either side of the Whisper White panel before layering it to the front of a Pacific Point card base.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Custom Tee stamp set

I decorated the envelope and the inside of the card using a smiley face stamp from the Hello stamp set, now retired – it was one of last year’s Sale-A-Bration choices.

I really like the uncluttered look of this card and I love the Pacific Point which is a colour I don’t often use.

Lift Me Up for January Classes

Last week’s classes saw us using the lovely Lift Me Up stamp set with the co-ordinating Up & Away thinlet dies to make 3 cards.  I wanted to combine the stamps and dies from the Spring/Summer catalogue with the Carried Away Designer Series Paper (dsp) found in the Sale-A-Bration brochure. I cut the 12” x 12” papers down to 6”x 6” stacks – 8 stacks from each pack of dsp, each stack containing 6 double sided sheets – and gave each of my ladies a pack to use in the class. What they didn’t use they took home to add to their stash.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Carried Away dsp – Sale-A-Bration

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Lift Me Up stamp set, Up & Away thinlit dies and Carried Away dsp

I chose the ink colours to match the dsp – Night of Navy, Smoky Slate, Watermelon Wonder, Peakaboo Peach and Mint Macaron.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Lift Me Up stamp set, Up & Away thinlit dies and Carried Away dsp

The first card was very straight forward and involved stamping the smallest balloon randomly onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock in 4 of the colours. The ladies then chose a patterned paper to add behind the stamped panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The whole piece was then layered onto a Smoky Slate cardbase using Dimensionals. Simple but very effective.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Lift Me Up stamp set, Up & Away thinlit dies and Carried Away dsp

The second card was CASE’d from the amazing Australian demonstrator Kylie Bertucci. Kylie made this card using all of the dsp options from the Carried Away dsp and you can see them all by following this Youtube link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d3w  – she starts showing the cards about 15 mins in. My ladies enjoyed having the chance to select their own dsp for this card. We decided that this card would make a great Valentine card as many of our menfolk don’t appreciate the hearts and flowers, lovey dovey type cards………

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Lift Me Up stamp set, Up & Away thinlit dies and Carried Away dsp

The last card involved using the Sponge Brayers, a first for many of the ladies who come to my classes. The brayers are super easy to use and each pack contains 4 sponges and 2 handles. After using each sponge you take it off the handle, removed the plastic centre and run it under warm water until the water runs clear and then leave them to air dry. The sponges will become stained but this doesn’t affect them at all.

We used the Peakaboo Peach, Watermelon Wonder and Night of Navy ink pads to colour the background Whisper White panel. The panel initially looks quite mottled but evens out as the ink soaks into the cardstock and dries. The beautiful intricate balloon was die cut from Basic Black cardstock and we die cut some of the dsp to add behind the balloon. The starry night was made using a white gel pen. The whole panel was added to a Thick Whisper White card base.

I hope you like these projects as much as the ladies who came to the January classes did. Thank you for visiting my blog and come again soon.

Custom Tee used for a thank you card

The Custom Tee stamp set with its co-ordinating T-Shirt Builder Framelit Dies was one of the first bundles that caught my eye in the new Spring/Summer catalogue. I have 2 runners in the family and a daughter who is sport mad and this is such a versatile set for sports fans and so much more.  It would make great hen party invites.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Custom Tee stamp set and T-shirt Builder diesI chose a Crumb Cake card base for today’s card. I stamped the girly style T-shirt onto 3 different patterned pieces all from the Sending Love 6” x 6” designer paper stack. The colour palette for this paper stack is Real Red and Whisper White and although the set is ‘Valentine’ themed, the papers can be used for lots of other occasions.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Custom Tee stamp set and T-Shirt Builder diesThe T-shirts were stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and die cut using the T-Shirt Builder Framelit Dies. I inked around the edges with a Sponge Dauber and the Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I mounted the 2 paler T-shirts onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock using Tombow Liquid Adhesive, one at either end. The darker T-shirt was mounted in the middle using Dimensionals.

I added a strip of Real Red cardstock at the top and bottom of the Whisper White panel. The Basic Black cardstock strip was added to hide a booboo with the Tombow!!! Luckily I really liked how it looked. There is almost always something you can do to cover a mistake…….ask me how I know………

I stamped the sentiment from the Thankful Thoughts stamp set in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and adhered the Whisper White cardstock panel to the card base using Dimensionals.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’Up! – Custom Tee stamp set

For the inside of the card I stamped a Whisper White panel with the T-shirt image and added some of the tiny flowers included in the set, using Real Red ink. I stamped the same image onto the envelope to complete the project.

I am really happy with how the card looks. Clean, simple and very effective. Thank you so much for visiting my blog. Please drop in again soon.

This card was inspired by one I found on Pinterest by Amy Koenders. To see her original click on this link –  https://stampwithamyk.com/2016/12/15/stampin-up-avant-garden-sneak-peek-for-the-happy-stampers-blog-hop/

Avant Garden by Stampin’ Up! form Sale-A-Bration 2017 by Mo Rootes at www.crafty-rootes.com

I stamped the bold flower in 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Elegant Eggplant ink in a rough semi-circle then filled in the blank spaces with 1st and 2nd generation Pool Party ink.

Avant Garden by Stampin’ Up! form Sale-A-Bration 2017 by Mo Rootes at www.crafty-rootes.com

The sentiment from the same set was stamped in Pool Party ink onto scrap Whisper White cardstock and die cut using the Stitched Frames Dies. I added a 2nd generation Elegant Eggplant stamp image to the base of the sentiment. I die cut a scalloped circle from the Layering Circles dies a tiny bit bigger to mount the sentiment onto.

Avant Garden by Stampin’ Up! form Sale-A-Bration 2017 by Mo Rootes at www.crafty-rootes.com

I wrapped a piece of Linen Thread around the stamped panel and tied a small bow. The panel was then added to a layer of Elegant Eggplant cardstock using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The sentiment was mounted over the thread using Dimensionals. The entire topper was then added to a Pool Party card base using Dimensionals.

Vintage Leaves – Watercoloured

The card I am sharing today was inspired by Dena Rekow of The Creativity Cave. She does the most amazing projects and I adored this one. I stripped it back to basics for my version.

I stamped the small leaf for the Vintage Leaves stamp set in Cherry Cobbler, Delightful Dijon, Rich Razzleberry and Garden Green ink onto Stampin’ Up! Watercolour cardstock. I loved this colour combination. As soon as I stamped each colour I went over the image with an Aquapainter filled with a little water. This blurred and intensified the colour of each leaf, gorgeous….

I die cut each of the leaves with the co-ordinating Leaflet Framelit dies. The sentiment, from the Rose Wonder stamp set was stamped in Delightful Dijon ink onto a card base of Thick Whisper White cardstock. I spaced the leaves evenly across the card front, adhering the Cherry Cobbler, Rich Razzleberry and Garden Green ones with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The Delightful Dijon leaf was added with Dimensionals to give a bit of lift.

To see Dena’s original card check out her blog – http://www.thecreativitycave.com/my_weblog/2016/09/friday-quickies-techniques-and-tips-faux-watercoloring.html

Cookie Cutter Gingerbread Family

I have been making some Christmas cards recently and I thought I would share a couple of them with you today. I used the, oh so popular, Cookie Cutter Christmas and the gorgeous gingerbread man.

1-dscf8268

I stamped 3 gingerbread men in Early Espresso ink onto Crumb Cake cardstock and punched them out with the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. I dressed them up with bows in Real Red and So Saffron and a bow-tie in Soft Sky ink stamped onto Soft Sky cardstock and added them to a Whisper White layer with Dimensionals. I added the tiny snowflake from the Star of Light stamp set. The sentiment, from the Stitched With Cheer stamp set was stamped in Early Espresso and die cut with the Big Shot using the Bunch of Banners framelit dies. The upper right corner of the Whisper White piece was rounded using a We R Memory Keepers ½” corner rounder and added to a panel of Soft Sky cardstock, which also had a rounded corner. The whole piece was added to Thick Whisper White card base, yes I also rounded the top right corner and to finished I added a Basic Rhinestone to each of the little girl’s hair bows. Such a charming card.

1-dscf8272For the second card I stamped the gingerbread people in Early Espresso onto Whisper White cardstock and punched them out with the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. I stamped the large splatter stamp from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set in Pool Party ink onto a panel of Whisper White, I think it looks a little like a map….. and added the gingerbread people either side.  I mounted the piece onto a panel of Pool Party cardstock and added it using Tombow to a Thick Whisper White card base. I rounded the upper right and lower left corners of all the pieces using the Project Life Corner Rounder. As a final touch I added a Red Glimmer paper bow and buttons for the bit of sparkle. The sentiment comes from the retired set Festival of Trees and was stamped in Pool Party ink. Love it
