Soft thank you card using the Beautiful Promenade stamp set and Beautiful Layers dies by Stampin' Up

Beautiful Promenade

Earlier this week we had my husband’s cousin and her partner visiting from Canada and they were fascinated with my Big Shot……… who isn’t!!! I cut a few pieces out using the Beautiful Promenade stamp set and Beautiful Layers framelit dies to demonstrate how it worked and decided to use them to make a card today. So this card is for you Helen and T.J.

Making the Beautiful Promenade card

I began by placing the Whisper White die cut doily onto a 5⅜” by 3⅝” panel of Soft Sea Foam cardstock. Lifting the doily to one side I stamped the striped flower image twice using 2nd generation Coastal Cabana ink so that the stamped flowers would be partially covered by the doily. 2nd generation means inking up your stamp then stamping it onto scrap paper – I use Grid Paper – then stamping again without re-inking onto your project which gives you a lighter shade of the original colour.

At this point I decided that the background was too stark so ran the Soft Sea Foam panel through my Big Shot using the Tufted embossing folder.

I took the flower I had stamped in Bermuda Bay ink onto scrap Whisper White cardstock then die cut using my Big Shot and the Beautiful Layers dies. I stamped the striped flower overtop of the die cut image. I then stamped 3 lots of leaves in Gray Granite ink and die cut them out. I stamped the sentiment from the Eastern Beauty stamp set in Gray Granite ink into the centre of the doily and started putting the card together.

I used Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive to glue the embossed Soft Sea Foam layer to a panel of Whisper White cardstock measuring 5½“ by 3¾” and added this to the Bermuda Bay card base. I added a strip of Gray Granite cardstock 4⅛” by ⅜” to the card front with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive and added the doily on top using tiny pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals. The flower was then added with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive  and the leaves tucked in behind. To finish the card off I added a few Glitter Enamel Dots.

Such a soft, pretty card. I hope you like it.

Eastern Medallions in Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst

I am still loving the Eastern Beauty stamp set and co-ordinating Eastern Medallion Framelits , though I haven’t used it in a while – easily distracted by all the other goodies in the new annual catalogue. I have chosen to make some thank you cards using the set today, along with my 2 favourite new in-colors, Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Eastern Medallion by Stampin’ Up!

I die cut one of the large medallions from Whisper White cardstock using the Eastern Medallion dies and my Big Shot. I then die cut the medallion using the Layering Circle Framelit dies, love that the 2 die sets work together. I did exactly the same with the inner medallion ring.

I stamped the sentiment in Berry Burst ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and die cut it out using the smallest Layering Circle die. I then die cut a circle from Berry Burst cardstock and Lemon Lime Twist cardstock and using Tombow Liquid Adhesive used these to back the large and small parts of the medallion. I love the pop of colour this gives to the image.

I stuck the largest (Berry Burst) medallion to the front of a Thick Whisper White card base using Tombow then added the Lemon Lime Twist medallion using Stampin’ Dimensionals on top. The sentiment was also added using Stampin Dimensionals for maximum impact.

Such a clean and simple card but so striking. I love it and hope you do as well.

Colorful Seasons for a beautiful Summery card

Playing with another new stamp set today it is called Colorful Seasons and as the name suggests it has images which cover the whole year from Spring flowers, through Summer deck chairs, Autumn leaves and Winter snowflakes. What great value for money. There is also a co-ordinating die set called Seasonal Layers which I am not using today.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Colorful Seasons stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I cut a panel of Whisper White cardstock and stamped the frame of the deckchair from the Colorful Seasons stamp set in Archival Basic Gray ink. Using Sahara Sand ink I stamped the ‘swooshy’ stamp from the Touches of Texture stamp set to give the illusion of ground under the deckchair. I used the ‘kissing technique’ to add the fun pattern to the cloth of the deckchair. To do this I inked up the solid deckchair cloth image in Blushing Bride ink and inked up the intricate floral stamp from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set and ‘kissed’ the 2 together before stamping the deckchair cloth image onto the stamped frame. Absolutely love this effect, it looks fabulous.

I stamped the small branch in the upper left hand corner using Sahara Sand ink and added the buds in Watermelon Wonder ink, sadly now retired. I rounded the upper right hand corner of the stamped piece and added it, using Tombow Liquid Adhesive to a layer of Basic Gray cardstock. I stamped the sentiment from the Eastern Beauty stamp set in Watermelon Wonder ink onto a layer of Whisper White cardstock, just over half way up and added the stamped piece on Stampin’ Dimensionals just below. This panel was then added to a card base of Watermelon Wonder cardstock.

Such a cool looking card, all ready for a long hot summer………….we can but dream……

Eastern Palace in Lemon Lime Twist and Night of Navy

I have been playing with the gorgeous Eastern Beauty stamp set and co-ordinating Eastern Medallion dies and thought I would share one of the cards I made with you today.

I went for a different shaped card base for this card by cutting an 8¼” by 8” piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock and scored it in half at 4” to make a longer, thinner card.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Eastern Beauty stamp set and Eastern Medallion Dies by Stampin Up

I cut a piece of Night of Navy cardstock to 7¾” by 3½” and a piece of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock 7½” by 3¼”. I rounded the upper left and lower right hand corner of both panels using my Project Life Corner Rounder. Taking the Night of Navy panel I layered up my Eastern Medallion Dies, one inside the other, largest to smallest in the centre of the panel taking care not to go near the edge. I added a Layering Circle die around the ‘medallion’ and ran the panel and dies through the Big Shot. I repeated the same die cutting on the Lemon Lime Twist panel. This is a great way to make the most of your cardstock as no-one will ever know each panel had a large shape cut from it. The result is 2 gorgeous intricate ‘doily’ like shapes which I then cut in half using my Stampin’ Trimmer.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Eastern Medallion stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I cut a Whisper White layer 7¼” by 3” and stamped the ‘starburst’ type shape in alternating Night of Navy ink and Lemon Lime Twist ink about  ⅓rd of the way up the panel then stamped the sentiment from Thankful Thoughts stamp set just below in Night of Navy ink. I added the cut medallions, staggered, and on either side of the panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.  I then layered the Whisper White panel on the Lemon Lime Twist panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and added both to the Night of Navy Layer. I added the whole piece to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I absolutely love this card and I am really liking the night of Navy, Lemon Lime Twist colour combo.

Sending Love dsp makes gorgeous Red and White Matchbook Favours

Over the weekend my husband set off on a business trip to China, somewhere neither of us has been and even more exciting because I will be flying out to join him for a short holiday at the end of the month……..whoop whoop. He was advised to take some small token gifts with him to hand out whilst he is there. The gifts have to be small, pack-able, fairly robust and not likely to melt as it is very hot in Beijing at the moment. That ruled out chocolate and biscuits which are the things I would usually go for in this situation. After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing he decided on Earl Grey teabags. For my inspiration I turned to a swap I received at Team Training last week from my friend Susan – aka Crafty Ducky Doodah – https://craftyduckydoodah.blogspot.co.uk/   check out her 14th May blog to see the original. In typical CASEing  (copy and selectively edit) fashion I took Susan’ idea and made it wider and slightly shorter, used different clours and decoration.

I wanted to use the colour Red which is considered to be very lucky in China so chose the Sending Love dsp stack to decorate the matchbook covers. I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock to 7” by 2¾”, scored it using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool at ½” and 3¾” on the long side.

I folded on my score lines and burnished with my Bone Folder to get a crisp edge. Using the Handheld Stapler, sadly now retired I stapled the ½” piece in the middle to make the flap which holds the Teabag in position. I cut a panel of Sending Love dsp to 3” by 2½” for matting on the front panel and another at 2½” by ¼” to mat on the narrow flap. I used Tombow Liquid Adhesive to adhere the dsp.

I stamped the sentiment from the Eastern Beauty stamp set using Real Red ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and die cut it using my Big Shot and the smallest stitched oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelit Dies and added it to the front panel using Tombow. I punched a Bitty Butterfly from Vellum cardstock and added it to the sentiment piece using a Mini Glue Dot and finished off by adding a Basic Rhinestone.

I think these are really cute, hope you do too.
