Floating & Fluttering

A sweet butterfly themed thank you card made using the Floating and Fluttering stamp set and Fluttering dies.

Colours used in this card are:

To recreate the Floating and Fluttering card, you will need:

Highland Heather card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – rounded upper left corner
Pool Party – 5¼” by 3½” – rounded upper left corner
Basic White – 5” by 3¼” – rounded upper left corner
Basic White – 5⅜” by 3⅝” – rounded upper left corner
Basic White – 4” by 3¼”

I started by using a Blending Brush to apply some Pool Party ink to the 5¼” by 3½” panel of Basic White and added some Pool Party speckles using a stamp from the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set.

The sentiment stamp from the Art Gallery stamp set was stamped in Gorgeous Grape ink. The whole panel was added to the Pool Party Layer using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

The large butterfly image was stuck on the plate of my Stamparatus. I inked it up with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and stamped onto the smallest piece of Basic White card. I like to use the Stamparatus so that I can stamp the image multiple times to get a really dark impression.

I used the infill stamps to add colour. Largest butterfly in Blushing Bride ink, the smallest butterfly in Highland Heather ink, the medium butterfly in So Saffron ink. All the foliage was stamped in Pear Pizzazz ink.

The die cut image was added on Dimensionals to the card front. I added a trio of Pastel Pearls to complete the card.

A simple and pretty card.

Umbrella Butterfly card

Today I am sharing a quirky umbrella butterfly card made using the Under My Umbrella stamp set and the Umbrella Builder Punch. This card was inspired by a card I saw on YouTube  by Gail O’Neill

To recreate the Umbrella Butterfly card you will need:

Poppy Parade – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – Rounded upper left corner
Whisper White – 5⅜” by 3⅝” – Rounded upper left corner x 2
Tropical Oasis dsp 5¼” by 3½” – Rounded upper left corner
Scrap Whisper White & Basic Black

I adhered the Tropical Oasis dsp to one of the Whisper White panels using Multipurpose liquid Adhesive. The panel was then adhered using the same glue to the Poppy Parade card base.

I punched out an ornament using the Small Ornament Punch and some scrap Basic Black card. The centre of the ornament was trimmed out using scissors and added over the butterfly forming the body. The butterfly was added to the card front on Dimensionals.

Doily Builder Swaps for OnStage

Today I am sharing the swaps I made using the gorgeous Doily Builder dies for this weekend’s OnStage event in Telford. This is a demonstrator only event where we get to meet friends, see new product, play with new stuff and generally have a lot of fun.

Making the Doily Builder card swap

Swaps for OnStage made using the gorgeous Doily Builder dies by Stampin' Up!

www.crafty-rootes.com – A glorious Spring coloured card front using the Doily Builder dies by Stampin’ Up!

You will need;
Window Sheet 5⅜” by 3⅝”
Whisper White cardstock 5⅛” by 3½” – Rounded upper right corner
Either Coastal Cabana, Flirty Flamingo or So Saffron cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” – Rounded upper right corner
Scraps of Coastal Cabana, Flirty Flamingo, So Saffron cardstock, Whisper White & Gray Granite cardstock for die cutting and punching

I began by cutting the large doily into the Window sheet using my Big Shot. This gave me a sturdy stencil that could be used multiple times over.

I placed the mask onto the Whisper White panel, holding it in place with my finger. I inked up the stencil using So Saffron, Flirty Flamingo and Coastal Cabana inks in random orders. I moved the stencil and repeated again using the colours randomly.

I stamped the sentiment in Gray Granite ink onto scrap Whisper White and punched it out using the Classic Label punch. This was added to the stamped panel on Dimensionals.

I die cut the medium and small doilies using the same three colours and added one small and one medium doily to the stamped panel using Mini Glue Dots.

The Gray Granite butterfly was punched out using the Butterfly Duet punch and this was added to the stamped panel with a Mini Glue Dot. The panel was then added to a panel of Coastal Cabana, Flirty Flamingo or So Saffron cardstock and a trio of Iridescent Sequins added to complete the card front.

I really liked the combination of Spring like colours. Ihope you like it.

Happiness Blooms dsp

Here is a cute card made using only the Happiness Blooms dsp and a sentiment stamp. I am trying to use more of our lovely designer series paper (dsp) this year and not to just hoard it.

You will need;
Poppy Parade card base

Happiness Blooms dsp – 5⅜” by 3⅝”
Night of Navy – 5½” by ½”

I started by selecting the 2 co-ordinating pieces of dsp and cutting them to size using my Paper trimmer. I matted the larger striped panel of dsp onto the larger layer of Night of Navy cardstock with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. This layer was then added to a Poppy Parade card base with the same adhesive.

Butterfly Springtime Impressions

Today I have been using the butterfly from the Springtime Impressions dies and the Abstract Impressions stamp set to create a colourful card.

Making the butterfly Springtime Impressions card

Pretty card made using the lovely Springtime Impressions dies by Stampin' Up!

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful Butterfly card made with Springtime Impressions dies

I started by using my Big Shot and Whisper White cardstock to die cut the gorgeous detailed butterfly from the Springtime Impressions dies set. For the background I wanted a colourful, spotty effect and after trying various ideas I settled on inking a single flower from the group of small solid flowers and stamping it repeatedly in multiple colours. I used a panel of Whisper White cardstock measuring 5⅜” by 3⅝” and stamped using 1st and 2nd generation Berry Burst, Coastal Cabana, Gorgeous Grape and Petal Pink inks to achieve the look I was after.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful Butterfly card made with Springtime Impressions dies

After stamping I wrapped a length of Berry Burst ⅜” Metallic Edged Ribbon around the panel securing on the back with Sellotape. I added a 5” by ⅜” strip of Coastal Cabana cardstock to bring another texture to the card front and flagged the end. The whole stamped panel was layered onto a 5½” by 3¾” piece of Berry Burst cardstock using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

The butterfly was then added to the card front using Mini Glue Dots and the panel layered onto a Thick Whisper White card base with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. I added some Glitter Enamel Dots to the butterfly body as a final touch. Such a pretty card, I hope you like it.

Gorgeous Butterfly double z fold birthday card using Stampin' Up! product

Share What You Love Butterfly

Today I have been making a birthday card for a friend using the lovely Share What you Love dsp as a starting point.

Making the card

I began with a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock 11” by 5½” which I scored on the long side at 2¾” by 5½” using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool. I took a 2nd piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock 9¼” by 4¼” and scored it at 2¾” and 5½” on the long side. I then folded and burnished all of the score lines.

www.crafty-rootes.com – share what you love and springtime dies by Stampin’ Up!

I chose a pattern from the Share What You Love dsp and cut 2 panels at 5⅜” by 2⅝” and one panel at 5⅜” by 5⅜”. I then adhered these to the larger Thick Whisper White panel leaving a tiny border round each panel.

I then cut panels in Pear Pizzazz cardstock – one at 4” by 3½” and two at 4” by 2⅝” and 2 Whisper White panels 3⅞” by 2⅜”.

I ran the larger Pear Pizzazz panel through the Big Shot with the Lovely Floral Embossing Folder. And adhered the piece to the largest panel of the 9¼” by 4¼” Thick Whisper White cardstock using Tombow Liquid Glue.

I stamped the sentiment from the Very Vintage stamp set in the lower left corner of one of the Whisper White panels using Pear Pizzazz ink. Before stamping I cut the sentiment apart with a sharp pair of scissors.  I added the small flowers from the Love What you Do stamp set around the sentiment and in the upper right corner of the 2nd Whisper White panel in Pool Party ink. I added both panels to the Pear Pizzazz layers with Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

www.crafty-rootes.com – share what you love and springtime dies by Stampin’ Up!

Taking some scrap Whisper White cardstock and some scrap Vellum I die cut the gorgeous large butterfly using the Springtime Dies. I adhered the 2 together with Mini Glue Dots and added them to the front of the card with Mini Glue Dots. I finished the card off by adding some Glitter Enamel Dots (retired) to the body of the butterfly.

I then glued the 2 parts of the card together. I really hope my friend likes her card.

Delicate filigree butterfly by Stampin' Up! for an Anniversary card

Springtime Impressions Butterfly

Today I am sharing a card I made using the gorgeous new Springtime Impressions dies. You can purchase these in a bundle with the pretty Abstract Flowers stamp set with  10% discount but today I am only using the dies.

To Make the Card

Using my Stampin’ Trimmer I cut a panel of Petal Pink cardstock at 5⅜” by 3⅝”. This is one of our new colours and is such a soft and delicate colour. I placed the large detailed butterfly from the Springtime Impressions dies in the lower left hand corner and ran it through my Big Shot. I also ran a 4½” by 2½” piece of Vellum through the Big Shot with the same butterfly die.

I then inserted the upper right corner of the Petal Pink layer into the Lovely Floral Embossing Folder and ran it through the Big Shot. Love the delicate texture this gives to the card.

Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic stamp sets by Stampin' Up used for the Kissing Technique

Watercolor Wings meets the ‘Kissing Technique’

Today I have been using a couple of our retiring stamp sets Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic, both fabulous, versatile sets.

Kissing Technique

I inked up the large ‘solid butterfly’ image from the Watercolor Wings stamp set in So Saffron ink and inked up the large ‘foliage’ stamp from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set before bringing them together so that the detailed foliage was stamped onto the solid butterfly. This is known as the ‘kissing technique’. Such a striking effect.

Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic and the Kissing Technique

www.crafty-rootes.com – Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic and the Kissing Technique

I then stamped the solid butterfly onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock which I then die cut using the Bold Butterfly dies and my Big Shot. I stamped the butterfly ‘body’ onto the die cut piece in Real Red ink. I find it easier to line up after I die cut rather than stamping it before die cutting.

Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic stamp sets by Stampin' Up used for the Kissing Technique

www.crafty-rootes.com – Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic and the Kissing Technique

I place a panel of  Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” onto the front of a Thick Whisper White card base. I then inked up the foliage image from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set again with the So Saffron ink then rolled the edge around in the Real Red ink to give a two toned look. I stamped the image in the bottom right hand corner and the top left hand corner over lapping the edge of the smaller Whisper White panel.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic and the Kissing Technique

This panel was then added to a Real Red layer, 5½” by 3¾” using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I laid the die cut butterfly in position and stamped the antennae in So Saffron ink and the spotty trail in So Saffron ink and Real Red ink. The sentiment was stamped in Real Red ink in the lower left hand corner. The whole panel was then added to the Thick Whisper White card base. Finally, the butterfly was added to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

This is such a striking technique, why don’t you give it a try.

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Day stamp set

Beautiful Day for a Butterfly

Today I’ve been playing with 2 new products – the Beautiful Day Stamp Set from the Spring/Summer 2018 catalogue and the gorgeous Tutti-Frutti Cards and Envelopes which are a free Sale-a-Bration choice with a £45 order.

Butterfly from Beautiful Day stamp set for a Get Well card

www.crafty-rootes.com-Beautiful Day Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I started by stamping the stunning butterfly image in Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a Whisper White cardstock panel 4⅞” by 3⅝”. I wanted to create an ombre effect when colouring the butterfly and chose to use Stampin’ Blends to achieve this effect.

Ombre colouring for a Beautiful Day Butterfly

www.crafty-rootes.com-Beautiful Day Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I started with the Dark Cherry Cobbler and used small feather strokes in each section of the butterfly wings in turn. Next I used the Light Cherry Cobbler Blends Pen and deliberately did not blend the 2 shades together. I repeated the feathering using the Dark Calypso Coral then the Light Calypso Coral Blends Pen. The centre sections I coloured using the Dark and Light Daffodil Blends Pen the same fashion

Gorgeous sparkly Butterfly get well card

www.crafty-rootes.com-Beautiful Day Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I mounted 2 strips of Daffodil Delight cardstock, 4 ¾” by 1⅛” behind the stamped Whisper White piece offset to the top left with the one piece and to the bottom right with the second piece. I really like this offset partial mount, it is really quirky but very effective. The panels were added with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The whole piece was then added to the front of a Tutti-Frutti card base on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Day stamp set

www.crafty-rootes.com-Beautiful Day Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the sentiment from the Apron of Love stamp set in Calypso Coral ink onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock and added a banner end using Paper Snips. I added a tiny scalloped Daffodil Delight cardstock border to the bottom in the sentiment having punched it out using the Decorative Ribbon Border Punch. The sentiment was added to the card front using Tombow. To finish I added some of the Tutti-Frutti Adhesive Backed Sequins and covered the central Daffodil Delight sections in Clear Wink of Stella. Gorgeous!
