An oceanfront sailing card made using the Oceanfront and Smooth Sailing stamp sets by Stampin' Up

Oceanfront Sailing

I have been playing with my Oceanfront stamp set………I can’t help myself and this time I have combined it with the Sailing Home stamp set for an oceanfront sailing card.

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the oceanfront sailing card, you will need:

Balmy Blue card base – 8¼” by 5⅝” scored at 4⅛”
Basic White card – 5⅞” by 3⅝”
Night of Navy card – 5⅞” by ⅜”
Basic White card – 5½” by 3¾” for the inside
Scrap Basic White and Pear Pizzazz

Using the largest stamp from the Oceanfront stamp set I stamped the sky with Balmy Blue ink into the longer, narrower panel of Basic White card. I added the sea in Misty Moonlight ink using the same stamp.

The panel was then placed in the Stamparatus. I wanted to make sure that my sailing boat was nice and dark and the Stamparatus allowed me to stamp it 3 times with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Whilst the panel was in the Stamparatus I stamped the birds with the same ink. Both of these images came from the Sailing Home stamp set.

I stamped the boulder in Crumb Cake ink onto scrap Basic White card and fussy cut them out using Scissors. The vegetation was die cut from scrap Pear Pizzazz card using a die from the Seas Dies. The boulders were glued down with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive and the vegetation tucked behind.

I added some clouds, die cut using the Rainbow Dies and glued them to the sky. The 2 strips of Night of Navy card were glued to either side of the stamped panel. The whole panel was then added to the Balmy Blue card front on Dimensionals.

The boat was coloured in using my Chalk Pen, to help it stand out. I also added ‘waves’ with the same pen and finished off by adding some Clear Wink of Stella to the water.

A masculine seaside themed card featuring a lighthouse and a blended background.

Masculine Lighthouse themed card

Today I am sharing a masculine lighthouse themed birthday card made for my son’s birthday.

He has recently bought a house in a small fishing village on the northeast coast of Scotland, where incidentally a branch of my Mothers and a branch of my Fathers families lived from the at least the 1690’s. In fact, the house he has bought was owned by my 3 great aunts the last of whom died there in the mid 1990’s. Yes, family history is one of my passions……. My son loves the sea and as the house is about 50 feet from the harbour, he is a s happy as the proverbial pig. So….. his card had to be seaside themed. I got the idea for this card from a fellow demonstrator Priscilla – I adapted her design and made it my own.

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the masculine Lighthouse card, you will need:

Balmy Bay card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛”
Misty Moonlight – 5⅝” by 3⅞”
Basic White – 5½” by 3¾” x 2 – one for the inside
Pacific Point – 5½” by 3¾”
So Saffron – 5½” by 3¾”
Balmy Blue – 5½” by 3¾”
Misty Moonlight – 5½” by 3¾”
Misty Moonlight – 3¾” by 2⅝”
Basic White – 3¾” by 2⅝”

I took the four panels of card stock measuring 5½” by 3¾” and cut them into thin strips, wider at one end than the other. Taking the strips, I added them to one of the larger Basic White panels using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive leaving a small strip of white visible between the strips. I trimmed off any excess when the whole panel was covered.

The striped panel was then added to the Misty Moonlight layer with the same liquid glue and then to the Balmy Blue card base.

Using the lovely new Blending Brushes, I added Balmy Blue ink to the top and bottom of the small Basic White panel. I added So Saffron ink to the middle of the panel.  I stamped the ‘sea’ image in Balmy Blue ink at the bottom of the panel and birds in Basic Gray at the top of the panel. Using the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and my Mini Cut & Emboss Machine I cut a scalloped rectangle from the inked panel. This was glued to the small panel of Misty Moonlight and added to the card front on Dimensionals.

I used the Stamparatus to stamp the image of the lighthouse onto scrap Basic White card. I wanted the image to be quite dark and the Stamparatus gave me the ability to stamp multiple times to get the depth of colour I wanted.

I cut the lighthouse out using the Smooth Sailing Dies. I added light to the windows using So Saffron Blends Marker and used a Blender Pen to soften the colour of the lighthouse.

Sailing Home for the Stampers Showcase Blog Hop

Thank you for joining me for the Stampers Showcase Blog Hop where our theme this month is ‘Masculine cards’. If you have joined me from the lovely …….. welcome, my name is Mo Rootes and I live near Cambridge in the UK. Like many others I find making cards for the men in my life a bit of a challenge and I am really looking forward to seeing what my fellow blog hoppers have to share with us.

To recreate the Sailing Home card you will need;

Seaside Spray card base 8¼” by 5⅞” scored and folded at 4⅛”
Seaside Spray cardstock 5½” by 3¾”
Whisper White cardstock 5½” by 3¾” – for the inside
Whisper White cardstock 5” by 3”
Night of Navy cardstock 3½” by ½” x 2
Scrap Whisper White

I ran the panel of Seaside Spray cardstock through my Big Shot with the Subtles Embossing folder to give it a little texture before adhering the panel to Seaside Spray card base using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Using the 1” Circle Punch I punched circle from a PostIt Note and stuck it to the top of the stitched label. I sponged on some Blamy Blue ink using a Sponge Dauber then removed the punched circle and added some So Saffron ink again using a Sponge Dauber.
