A lovely card made using the Humming Along stamp set by Stampin' Up!

Humming Along

Today I am sharing a card using the sweet Humming Along stamp set. This is not a set I have but luckily I was over at one of my oldest friend and downline Jo’s house today and she wanted some tips on using Blends pens and this was the perfect set to demonstrate with.

To recreate the Humming Along card you will need;

Crumb Cake card base 8¼” by 5⅞”
Crumb Cake cardstock 5¼” by 3½”
Poppy Parade cardstock 3¾” by 3” – rounded upper right and lower left corners
Thick Very Vanilla cardstock 3⅝” by 2⅞” – rounded upper right and lower left corners
Very Vanilla cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” – for the inside

The lovely flower was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto the small panel of Thick Very Vanilla cardstock, personally I find the blends markers blend more smoothly on the Thick cardstock, my first tip. I used the the Dark Real Red and Dark Poppy Parade Blends for the flower. I usually start with the dark colour then blend it out with the lighter colour, going back when it is dry and adding more dark shading as necessary. The leaves were coloured with Dark Granny Apple Green and Light Old Olive. The stamen was coloured with the Dark Pumpkin Pie and Dark Pineapple Punch.

The sentiment from the Takeout Treats stamp set was stamped in Crumb Cake ink and the panel was added to the Poppy Parade layer with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

I inked up the Crackle Paint background stamp with Crumb Cake ink and stamped on the layer of Crumb Cake cardstock. This layer was then glued to the Crumb cake card base with the same adhesive.

The stamped panel was added to the card front on Dimensionals and added a sprinkling of Red Rhinestones.

Beautiful Baubles stamp set and Detailed Baubles dies used for a Christmas Card

Simple Baubles Christmas Card

Today I have been making a Simple Baubles Christmas card using the Beautiful Baubles stamp set and the Tropic Chic dsp.

Making the card

I took a panel of Whisper White cardstock 4” by 3” and stamped the group of baubles from the Beautiful Baubles stamp set in Early Espresso Ink. I added the sentiment from the same stamp set in the same Early Espresso ink.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful Baubles stamp set used for a Christmas Card

I stamped the baubles again on a scrap of Whisper White and die cut them using the Detailed Baubles dies and my Big Shot. One of the baubles was then coloured in using the light Real Red and the light Granny Apple Green Blends pens and added it over the top of the other stamped baubles on a dimensional.

I glued a piece of Tropical Chic dsp 5⅞” by 1½” to the front of a Real Red card base and stamped the tiny snowflakes randomly across the remaining Real Red cardstock in Real Red ink. The stamped panel was then added using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

A very simple Christmas card, I hope you like it.

Painted Glass Coastal Cabana butterflies

Painted Glass Sneak Peek

Today I am sharing with you a sneak peek of some new product which will be available in the new 2018-2019 Annual Catalogue from the 1st June. The stamp set I am using today is called Painted Glass and is absolutely gorgeous, I especially love the really old fashioned manuscript style font.

Method

I began with a strip of Whisper White cardstock 5⅞” by 2¼”, inked up the delicate little butterfly stamp in Archival Basic Black ink and stamped it randomly down the entire strip. I then took my Coastal Cabana Marker…….yes y this gorgeous colour which was one of the 2013 – 2015 In Color‘s is now coming back into the Brights color family as part of Stampin’ Up!’s colour revamp . I was so happy when I found I still had the marker and a small amount of the cardstock in my collection. Anyway, I digress……I coloured in parts of each butterfly using the Coastal Cabana Marker.

I added the stamped panel onto a layer of Basic Black cardstock 5⅞” by 2½” using Tombow Liquid Adhesive then adding the whole piece to the front of a Coastal Cabana card base again using Tombow.

Taking another piece of Whisper White cardstock 5⅞” by 1” I stamped the beautiful sentiment in Archival Basic Black ink roughly in the centre of the piece then trimmed the cardstock, using my Stampin’ Trimmer, so that the sentiment would sit over the butterfly panel. The sentiment was then added to the card front with Stampin Dimensionals.

I stamped another butterfly onto scrap Whisper White cardstock and cut it out using Stampin’ Up!’s  really sharp Paper Snips. After colouring in part of the butterfly with my Coastal Cabana Marker I added some Basic Rhinestones to the butterfly body and added it to the card front with Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

Such a pretty card using one of our returning colours. Hope you like it.

Stampin' Up!'s Lovely as a Tree at sunset

Autumn colours for Lovely as a Tree

I love stamping images from the Lovely as a Tree stamp set in Autumn colours and today’s card was inspired by the gorgeous sunsets we are blessed with living on the edge of The Fens. The pinks and peaches look fabulous together.

Lovely as a Tree by Stampin' Up!

www.crafty-rootes.com – Lovely as a Tree in Autumn colours

I took a piece of Whisper White cardstock 3½” by 3½” and masked it at ¾” on all 4 sides using Post It notes leaving a 2” by 2” square in the middle of the cardstock. I took a wedge of Stampin Sponge, dabbed it onto the surface of the Peakaboo Peach inkpad to pick up some ink and applied it to the centre of the masked off square. I found I got the best results by rubbing gently in a circular motion bringing the colour out gradually to the edge of the square. I dabbed a 2nd sponge into the Flirty Flamingo inkpad and started from the edge of the square and worked inwards. When I was happy with the depth of colour I used the Peakaboo Peach sponge to blend the 2 colours together before peeling away the Post It note masks to reveal the inked square.

Lovely as a Tree with an autumnal sunset

www.crafty-rootes.com – Lovely as a Tree in Autumn colours

When the ink was dry I added the ‘oak tree’ image in Early Espresso ink to the lower right corner overlapping the inked square. This is such a simple technique but the results look amazing.

Stampin' Up!'s Lovely as a Tree at sunset

I added the stamped and inked layer to a piece of Peakaboo Peach cardstock using Tomow Liquid Adhesive. I took a larger panel of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” and wrapped a piece of Flirty Flamingo Ruched Ribbon (retired) around it securing the ends on the back using sellotape.  I added the stamped panel on top of the ribbon using Stampin’ Dimensionals and added the sentiment from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set to the right using Peakaboo Peach ink before adding a bow with a Mini Glue Dot. The whole piece was then added to a Flirty Flamingo card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

I added a Whisper White panel 5⅜” by 3⅝”, to the inside of the card and stamped the tree again in the bottom right hand corner and stamped the same image again on the front of the Whisper White envelope. I love the way this card looks, hope you like it

3 cards for a class using Painted Harvest stamp set

Painted Harvest Classes – 3 beautiful projects

Painted Harvest Class – Thank you to all the lovely ladies who came to classes this week, we had a ball using the Painted Harvest stamp set to make 3 beautiful projects

Autumnal thank you card using Painted harvest Stamp set

www.carfty-rootes.com – Painted Harvest by Stampin’ Up!

The first card was very simple and started with us randomly stamping the ‘solid flower image’ in Crushed Curry ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock. We added the more ‘detailed flower’ image over the top of the first image in Cajun Craze ink, love how the 2 step stamping brings the flower to life.

We then stamped the sentiment from the Banners for You stamp set in Chocolate Chip ink and at this point we decided whether we were doing a landscape or portrait version of the card. We then stamped the ‘flower centre’ using Chocolate Chip ink and filled in the white spaces using the ‘fern like leaf image’ and Pear Pizzazz ink.

We wrapped a piece of ⅛” Copper Trim around the stamped piece and tied it in a bow………..always a challenge….. We added a thin strip of Chocolate Chip cardstock along one edge with Tombow Liquid Adhesive and added the whole panel using the same glue to the front of a Thick Whisper White card base. To finish off we stamped the flower again on the inside of the card and the front of the envelope.

Sunflowers in Autumnal colours

www.carfty-rootes.com – Painted Harvest by Stampin’ Up!

With the 2nd card we started by embossing a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the Layered Leaves Dynamic Textured Impressions Folder and the Big Shot. We added the embossed panel to a slightly larger piece of Crushed Curry cardstock using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and used the same glue to adhere the panel to a Cajun Craze card base.

We stamped the flower in exactly the same way as for the first card onto a scrap of Whisper White and die cut it using a circle die from the Stitched Shapes framelits. We also die cut a slightly larger scalloped circle from Cajun Craze cardstock using one of the Layering Circle dies. We then glued the 2 circles together with Tombow.

We stamped one of the leaf images in Always Artichoke ink onto Pear Pizzazz cardstock and punched them out using the Leaf Punch. These were added to the back of the Cajun Craze scalloped circle with Tombow.

We stamped the banner and the sentiment from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set using Chocolate Chip ink onto Whisper White cardstock and punched the banner out using the Duet Banner punch. This was added to the front of the stamped piece using Tombow. We added the whole piece to the embossed panel using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Again to finish we stamped the flower onto the envelope and onto a layer of Whisper White cardstock which we added to the inside of the card using Tombow.

Gorgeous Painted Harvest Christmas cards

www.carfty-rootes.com – Painted Harvest by Stampin’ Up!

The 3rd card was a CHRISTMAS card……..I know, couldn’t resist sneaking one in. I got the idea for this card from Pinterest but I haven’t been able to identify who originally came up with the idea but I have put my own spin on it.

We stamped the ‘solid flower image’ randomly in Pear Pizzazz ink onto Pear Pizzazz cardstock and added the panel to a Thick Whisper White card base. We then stamped the solid flower onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Pear Pizzazz ink. We stamped the detailed layer in Always Artichoke ink and added the ‘berries’ in Cajun Craze ink. We stamped the sentiment from the Star of Light stamp set in Cajun Craze ink and then flagged the end of the Whisper White piece using scissors. We added some Gold Glimmer paper behind and sneakily we used a short piece, cut into two and stuck on at the top and the bottom with Tear & Tape….. no- one will ever know……..

We added the whole panel to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals and added a bow made from the ⅛” Copper Trim with a Mini Glue Dot before decorating the inside of the card and the envelope.

I hope you like the projects as much as the ladies did.

Quirky Sweater Christmas card

Quirky Christmas Sweaters for a fun winter/holiday card

Use the quirky Christmas Sweaters stamp set to make fun, modern looking Christmas cards.

Quirky, modern Christmas card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters by Stampin’ Up

For today’s project I stamped one of the sweaters from the Christmas Sweater stamp set onto Whisper White cardstock using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I carefully coloured alternate stripes of the sweater using the brush end of the Berry Burst Marker. After a bit of trial and error I found it best to brush the colour on in one direction rather than going backwards and forwards, you get a less streaky finish.

Christmas Jumper card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters by Stampin’ Up

The image was then die cut using the Big Shot and the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes framelit dies. I added the stitched circle using Tombow Liquid Adhesive to a large scallop circle which was die cut from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock using the Layering Circle framelit dies.

I took a panel of Whisper White cardstock 5⅞” by 3⅝” and wrapped a length of ½” Finely Woven Berry Burst Ribbon about a third of the way down the panel, adhering it to the back with sellotape and added the circle topper piece over the top using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The sentiment was then stamped below the sweater using Lemon Lime Twist ink. The whole panel was then added to a Thick Whisper White card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

Beautiful You for Treat Boxes

I absolutely love the Beautiful You stamp set from the new spring/summer catalogue by Stampin’ Up! The images of the 3 ladies in the stamp set are so versatile and classic and as a bonus, there are lots of great sentiments included in the stamp set as well. What’s not to love…..

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Beautiful You stamp set

Over the weekend I have been making these cute little boxes to give as table gifts to the ladies attending my classes in February.

To make the boxes I used Whisper White cardstock cut to 9” by 4½”. I scored the cardstock at 1”, 4”, 5” and 8” on the long side and 1” and 3½” on the short side using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool. I cut up the short scorelines to form a pizza style box and adhered the tabs using FastFuse adhesive. I stamped a small panel of Whisper White cardstock with an image from the Beautiful You stamp set using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. The sketchy watercolor effect dress is a stamp also included in the stamp set. I used Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo or Daffodil Delight ink pads to colour the lady’s dress then added a scattering of tiny hearts, using a stamp from the Any Occasions stamp set (available for free with a £45 order until the 31st March 2017) and the same 3 colours. The Whisper White panel was then backed with a layer of the same colour as the sketchy dress, i.e. Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo or Daffodil Delight cardstock and added to the box with Dimensionals.

I love this box which co-ordinates really well with the 3 projects we will make in the February classes. I hope my ladies like them.
