A masculine seaside themed card featuring a lighthouse and a blended background.

Masculine Lighthouse themed card

Today I am sharing a masculine lighthouse themed birthday card made for my son’s birthday.

He has recently bought a house in a small fishing village on the northeast coast of Scotland, where incidentally a branch of my Mothers and a branch of my Fathers families lived from the at least the 1690’s. In fact, the house he has bought was owned by my 3 great aunts the last of whom died there in the mid 1990’s. Yes, family history is one of my passions……. My son loves the sea and as the house is about 50 feet from the harbour, he is a s happy as the proverbial pig. So….. his card had to be seaside themed. I got the idea for this card from a fellow demonstrator Priscilla – I adapted her design and made it my own.

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the masculine Lighthouse card, you will need:

Balmy Bay card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛”
Misty Moonlight – 5⅝” by 3⅞”
Basic White – 5½” by 3¾” x 2 – one for the inside
Pacific Point – 5½” by 3¾”
So Saffron – 5½” by 3¾”
Balmy Blue – 5½” by 3¾”
Misty Moonlight – 5½” by 3¾”
Misty Moonlight – 3¾” by 2⅝”
Basic White – 3¾” by 2⅝”

I took the four panels of card stock measuring 5½” by 3¾” and cut them into thin strips, wider at one end than the other. Taking the strips, I added them to one of the larger Basic White panels using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive leaving a small strip of white visible between the strips. I trimmed off any excess when the whole panel was covered.

The striped panel was then added to the Misty Moonlight layer with the same liquid glue and then to the Balmy Blue card base.

www.crafty-rootes.com – A striking lighthouse themed birthday card made using card stock scraps and blending brushes by Stampin’ Up!

Using the lovely new Blending Brushes, I added Balmy Blue ink to the top and bottom of the small Basic White panel. I added So Saffron ink to the middle of the panel.  I stamped the ‘sea’ image in Balmy Blue ink at the bottom of the panel and birds in Basic Gray at the top of the panel. Using the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and my Mini Cut & Emboss Machine I cut a scalloped rectangle from the inked panel. This was glued to the small panel of Misty Moonlight and added to the card front on Dimensionals.

I used the Stamparatus to stamp the image of the lighthouse onto scrap Basic White card. I wanted the image to be quite dark and the Stamparatus gave me the ability to stamp multiple times to get the depth of colour I wanted.

I cut the lighthouse out using the Smooth Sailing Dies. I added light to the windows using So Saffron Blends Marker and used a Blender Pen to soften the colour of the lighthouse.

A pretty birthday card made using the Hydrangea Hill stamp set for the Ink. Stamp. Share. Blog Hop

Hydrangea Haven for the Ink. Stamp. Share Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the Ink, Stamp, Share Blog Hop where our theme is the new January – June and Sale-A-Bration catalogues which have just gone live. So many lovely things in both catalogues and who doesn’t love the opportunity to earn free goodies. I have chosen to use the gorgeous Hydrangea Haven stamp set to work with today.

If you have joined me from the lovely Stacey Marsh, welcome and please continue to hop around the demonstrators and get lots of inspiration.

To recreate Hydrangea Hill card, you will need:

Just Jade card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛”
Flirty Flamingo – 4¾” by 2¾” – rounded lower right corner
Fluid 100 Water Color Paper – 4⅝” by 2⅝” – rounded lower right corner
Scrap Just Jade card
Very Vanilla – 5⅜” by 3⅝” – rounded lower right corner – for the inside

I inked up the pretty hydrangea stamp with Versamark ink and used the Stamparatus to stamp the image onto Fluid 100 Water color paper. I did this twice to ensure that I had a good image on the textured card stock.

Using Flirty Flamingo ink, squeezed into the lid of the ink pad and a Water Painter Brush I painted the flower head. As the color dries and added more in selected areas to deepen some of the flowers. I then added some Cherry Cobbler ink to selected areas of the flower. I used the same technique to add Just Jade ink to the stem and leaves.

Pretty feminine birthday cards made using the Paper Blooms dsp a Sale-A-Bration choice from Stampin' Up!

Paper Blooms card in the mail class

Today I am sharing the cards I designed for my first Class in the Mail. I used the lovely Paper Blooms designer Series Paper to make the cards. This is one of the free choices from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure with a £45 order.

Each person taking the class received all the card stock needed to make the cards, a 6” by 6” pack of the Paper Blooms dsp, a strip of Rhinestones, 3 envelopes and the die cut circles and label for the sentiments. As per Stampin’ Up! Policy no stamped images or sentiments were included and the ladies taking the class used what they had to hand. I had die cut a selection of flowers and leaves from the dsp for the ladies to use on their cards.

To recreate the double flower card, you will need:

Night of Navy card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛
Rococo Rose – 5½” by 3¾”
Paper Blooms dsp – 5⅜” by 3⅝”
Night of Navy – ¼” strip
Basic White – 5⅜” by 3⅝” for the inside

A gorgeous panelled birthday card featuring a dragonfly and made using Stampin' Up! products

Dragonfly Panel card

Today I am sharing a sweet Dragonfly panel card made for a friend’s birthday. We have been friends for over 43 years since we were brand new student nurses. I used the beautiful Dragonfly Garden stamp set and Dandy Garden dsp, these papers are colours that my friend loves.

To recreate the Dragonfly Panel card, you will need:

Crumb Cake card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛”
Whisper White – 5⅜” by 3⅝” x 2
Dandy Garden dsp – 5” by 3¼” cut into 4 strip 3¼” by 1¼”
Scrap WW

I began by adhering the 4 strips of Dandy Garden Designer Series Paper (dsp), using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive to the panel of Whisper White leaving an equal border between the panela and around the edges.

Some of the gorgeous Mossy Meadow Braided Twine was wrapped around the panel and adhered on the back by Sellotape.

I stamped the sentiment from the Itty Bitty Birthday stamp set in Mossy Meadow ink onto a scrap of Whisper White card and trimmed it out using my sharp Scissors and added it to the panel with the same liquid adhesive.

I punched a Dragonfly from one of the sheets of dsp using the Dragonfly Punch and added it to the panel using the liquid adhesive.

The wings of the Dragonfly were painted with Clear Wink of Stella, to give a bit of a shimmer. I added a bow made from the same twine using a Mini Glue Dot and a trio of Gold Glitter Enamel Dots.

Such a pretty card, I hope she likes it.

A lovely flowery card made using Stampin' Up! products and Mango & Poppy ink

Mango & Poppy Blossoms

Here is a gorgeous card featuring Mango & Poppy Blossoms, made using the Blossoms in Bloom stamp set and these bright, bold colours. You may have seen a sneak peek of this card back in May on my facebook page.

To recreate the Mango & Poppy Blossoms card you will need:

Pear Pizzazz – 4⅞” by 3⅛” – rounded upper right corner
Whisper White 4¾” by 3” -– rounded upper right corner
Whisper White – 5⅜” by 3⅝” – rounded upper right corner – for the inside
Scrap Whisper White and Poppy Parade card

I inked up the large floral stamp from the Blossoms in Bloom stamp set in Mango Melody ink and added some Poppy Parade ink to the edges of the flowers using a Poppy Parade ink and stamped it onto the smaller Whisper White card.
