Spring/Summer cards and a lidded box

Easter/Spring Adult Education All Day Event

Thank you to all the lovely ladies who came to my Adult Education Easter/Spring themed event on Sunday 25th March. I am sharing today the projects they made. I had set up 5 project tables where they made either 2 cards or a simple lidded box + the sweet little bird house featured in the post on the 23rd March.

Spring/Summer cards and a lidded box

www.crafty-rootes,com – Spring/Summer-Adult-Education-Workshop using Stampin’ Up! product

On arrival each lady was given a pack containing all the pre-cut cardstock layers and card bases they needed to complete the card projects and during the day they moved from table to table making all the projects. The lidded box was pre-scored for them and just needed to be trimmed, put together and decorated. They did use the Simply Scored Scoring Tool to score the cardstock for the birdhouse and assembled this from scratch.

At the table featuring the Watercolor Wings set they were able to try out 4 step stamping using the new Stamparatus  stamp positioning tool which was a resounding success, everybody loved it! They also used the sponge brayer plus an embossing folder and Big Shots to die cut lots of pieces. They also used the Stampin’ Blends on a couple of the projects and really enjoyed using them.

Bird House Easter Treats

Today I am sharing these adorable little birdhouse treat boxes. I designed these for my Easter/Spring all-day Adult Education event on Sunday 25th March and decided to make the ladies one each as a table gift. They are just big enough to hold a crème egg ……yummy. I made them in a variety of spring colours.

I started with a piece of cardstock 6½” by 5¾”. Using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool I scored on the 6½” side at 1½”, 3”, 4½”, and 6” and on the 5¾” side at 1½”, 3¾”, and 5¼”. I folded and burnished on all the score lines.

Get well card using Stampin' Up Blossoming Basket

Get Well with a Blossoming Basket

I love the new Blossoming Basket stamp set and co-ordinating Basket Weave Embossing Folder; one of the additional Sale-a-Bration choices you can earn with a £90 order until the end of March 2018. I used the set today to make a sweet get well soon card for a friend.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Blossoming Basket stamp set and Basket Weave Embossing Folder

I took a piece of Whisper White cardstock 3¼” by 3⅛” and stamped the cute basket using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I used a selection of Stampin’ Blends Pens to colour in the image – Dark Pink Pirouette and Light & Dark Rich Razzelberry for the flowers. Light & Dark Old Olive and Light Smoky Slate for the leaves and Light & Dark Soft Sky for the basket. I stamped the sweet little butterfly from the same set on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, coloured it in with the Dark Soft Sky and Light Rich Razzelberry Stampin’ Blends before cutting it out with scissors.

I added the stamped image to a panel of Pool Party cardstock using Tombow Liquid Adhesive having rounded the upper right corners of both pieces using the retired Project Life Corner Rounder.

Taking a piece of Whisper White cardstock 5⅞” by 2½” I ran it through the Big Shot using the Basket Weave Embossing Folder. I love the dimension this gives, it is gorgeous. I added the textured panel to the front of a Rich Razzelberry card base. The stamped panel was added to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals then I added the tiny butterfly to the basket handle before adding some Basic Rhinestones to the image.

The sentiment from the Apron of Love stamp set was stamped in Rich Razzelberry ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and trimmed out with scissors. I added it to the basket using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

I am really happy with this card, so pretty. I hope you like it.

Christmas Quilt cards

Christmas Quilt for non Christmas cards

Thank you to the lovely ladies who came to this week’s classes which, by popular request were non seasonal themed.

We used the Christmas Quilt stamp set and co-ordinating Quilt Builder dies to make 3 non Christmas themed cards. This is such an amazingly, versatile set and will be fantastic for any quilters or sewers.

Gorgeous card for quilter or sewer

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Quilt stamp set and Quilt Builder Dies by Stampin’ Up!

The first card we made was stamped. The frame of the quilted piece was stamped in Fresh Fig ink onto Whisper White cardstock and the infilling pieces were stamped in either Berry Burst ink or Pool Party ink.  We stamped the sentiment in Berry Burst ink and punched it out using the Duet Banner Punch and backed it with a Pool Party piece punched with the same punch. We added a strip of Berry Burst cardstock and a piece of ⅛” Soft Sky Ribbon (retired) to the stamped panel.  We took a Berry Burst card base and stamped the frame piece in the upper left and lower right corner using Fresh Fig ink before adding the Whisper White stamped panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals. We added a Glitter Enamel Dot to the centre.

Lovely quilt inspired card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Quilt stamp set and Quilt Builder Dies by Stampin’ Up!

The 2nd card was a softer affair. The ladies embossed a Pool Party panel with the Quilt Top embossing folder and my Big Shot and added it to the Pool Party card base after wrapping it with a piece of Berry Burst Ribbon. They then die cut the quilt frame in either Whisper White, Berry Burst, Pool Party or Fresh Fig and shared the pieces with their neighbours. We adhered the frame die cut to a piece of Adhesive sheet and added the coloured pieces just like a jigsaw puzzle. The whole panel was then added to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final card started with a Thick Whisper White card base. We added a dsp panel to the bottom of the card front and an embossed Whisper White panel and covered the join with Berry Burst ribbon. The adorable sentiment was stamped in Berry Burst ink and die cut using the Layering Oval Framelits and backed with a Fresh Fig scalloped oval die cut using the same set of dies. They then die cut the flower in either Whisper White, Berry Burst, Pool Party or Fresh Fig and again, shared the pieces with their classmates.  We added the sentiments and the flower with Stampin’ Dimensionals. White Perfect Accents were added to the centre of the flower.

Quirky card for a quilter

The Quilt is not just for Christmas

I am loving the Christmas Quilt stamp set and co-ordinating Quilt Builder framelit dies and they are incredibly versatile and definitely not just for Christmas. Today I have used the bundle to make an encouragement card for a friend who is having a bit of a tough time at the moment. She is a quilter so will totally get this card.

Using scraps to make a gorgeous card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Quilt stamp set and Quilt Builder framelit dies by Stampin’ Up!

I began by taking the intricate square die and the square frame die from the Quilt Builder framelit dies, placing one inside the other using a piece of Washi Tape to keep the 2 dies in place before running it through the Big Shot using Berry Burst cardstock, Fresh Fig cardstock, Whisper White cardstock and Pool Party cardstock.

Lovely modern card for a sewing enthusiast

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Quilt stamp set and Quilt Builder framelit dies by Stampin’ Up!

I chose the Berry Burst intricate frame to make my card and added to a piece of Whisper White cardstock 2⅞” by 2⅞” which I had already covered with Fast Fuse Adhesive. I then added the different colour pieces, Fresh Fig, Whisper White and Pool Party into the negative spaces like a jigsaw puzzle. There was a tiny strip of Whisper White to trim off on 2 sides using scissors. I was really happy with the effect and the bonus is you have all the pieces to make 3 more panels in different colour ways.

Quirky card for a quilter

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Quilt stamp set and Quilt Builder framelit dies by Stampin’ Up!

I took the panel and ran it through the Big Shot using the Quilt Top Embossing Folder which just added so much texture and pulled the whole piece together.

I placed the panel onto a Thick Whisper White card base and stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set using Berry Burst ink. I then added Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the embossed panel and added it to the card front. Gorgeous, really hope my friend likes it.

Sweet birthday card featuring ice lollies

Cool Treats Lollies for a 10 year olds party

I had a great time on Sunday running a craft session at a soon to be 10year old’s birthday party. The birthday girl, her friends and her younger sister were a pleasure to spend time with and they were so enthusiastic. I designed 2 projects using the Cool Treats Stamp set and the co-ordinating Frozen Treats Framelit dies for them to make.

Gorgeous card for a young girls birthday

www.crafty-rootes.com – Cool Treats stamp set and Frozen Treas Framelit dies by Stampin’ Up!

The first was a card and we started by stamping one of the ice lolly images using Flirty Flamingo ink, So Saffron Ink, Peakaboo Peach ink and Lemon Lime Twist ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock. We added the lolly stick using Crumb Cake ink before die cutting the lollies using the Frozen Treats framelit dies. The girls did an amazing job and loved stamping.

Ice lollies on a summer themed childs birthday card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Cool Treats stamp set and Frozen Treas Framelit dies by Stampin’ Up!

Next we inserted 3 strips of cardstock 5⅞” by ¼” in Flirty Flamingo, Peakaboo Peach and So Saffron, into the Seaside Embossing Folder and ran it through the die cutting machine to get some cool texture. The girls loved doing this. We added the embossed strips to a panel of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” using Snail Adhesive and used the Grid Paper to help make sure they were straight. They stamped the sentiment from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set in Flirty Flamingo ink below the embossed strips.

Using Snail Adhesive they added a Whisper White circle, die cut ahead of time using the Stitched Shapes framelits to a scalloped circle, die cut ahead of time from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock using the Layering Circles framelits.  This piece was then added to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals on top of the embossed strips.

Sweet birthday card featuring ice lollies

www.crafty-rootes.com – Cool Treats stamp set and Frozen Treats Framelit dies by Stampin’ Up!

The 4 die cut ice lollies were then added to the Whisper White circle with either Snail Adhesive or Stampin’ Dimensionals. The girls then added some Iridescent Sequins using Mini Glue Dots and a Paper Piercer, they loved these. To finish we stamped another lolly and lolly stick onto a panel of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” for the inside and onto the front of a Whisper White Envelope.

Dainty little gift bag for a young girls birthday

www.crafty-rootes.com – Cool Treats stamp set and Frozen Treats Framelit dies by Stampin’ Up!

For the second project we took a piece of Whisper white cardstock 8½” by 3½” and stamped a variety of ice lollies along one of the long sides in Flirty Flamingo, So saffron, Peakaboo Peach, Lemon Lime Twist and Pool Party ink, the girls even did a little 2 step stamping which they loved. To make the project go faster I had already stamped the lolly sticks along one of the 8½” sides using Crumb Cake ink and applied Tear & Tape to the back of the stamped side and along one of the 3½” sides.

Next they folded and burnished the base of the bag which I had scored and cut for them. I  started with a 3” by 3” piece of Whisper White cardstock and scoring at ½” on all 4 sides then cutting up the score lines to form 4 tabs. I had added Tear & Tape to the tabs ahead of time and the girls removed the backing and adhered the tabs to the outside of the base. They then removed the backing from the adhesive on the long side and adhered it to the base, starting from the middle of one of the sides and wrapping it around pressing it into place as they went. The backing was then removed from the remaining short edge and overlapped to seal the sides of the bag.

They curled 2 strips of Whisper White cardstock 8” by ½” using a Bone Folder before applying a Mini Glue Dot to both ends of each strip and adding them to the inside of the bag to form the handles. To finish off they decorated the outside with Iridescent Sequins which they stuck on with Mini Glue Dots.

They did so well and their cards and bags looked amazing and I just love the summery colours..

3 fun sweater themed Christmas cards

Christmas Sweaters for October Classes

The Christmas Sweaters stamp set made for great projects at classes this we made 3 gorgeous cards and got covered in red ink and glitter……………….what’s not to like…..

Quirky Christmas card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

We started with a simple card, stamping the adorable ‘fairy light sweater’ image using Momento Tuxedo Black ink across a panel of Whisper White 5⅞” by 1¾”. We then randomly coloured in the lights using Real Red, Pool Party and So Saffron ink pads and Blender Pens. After colouring we added the stamped piece to a layer of Pool Party 5⅞” by 2” and then to a Real Red layer 5⅞” by 2¼” using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

We stamped the sentiment from the Star of Light stamp set using Real Red ink onto the Thick Whisper White card base before adding the stamped panel with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. This would be a great card to mass produce.

Christmas jumpers for a seasonal card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

For the second card we stamped the ‘gingerbread’ jumper using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock. We coloured it in using Real Red, Pool Party, Crumb Cake and So Saffron ink pads and Blender Pens before using a circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelit dies and the Big Shot to cut it out. We also die cut a slightly larger scalloped circle from Real Red cardstock using the Layering Circle dies and glued the 2 layers together. The scalloped circles were added to one of the gorgeous Foil Snowflakes.

We stamped the jumper randomly onto a Pool Party panel 5⅜” by 3⅝”using Pool Party ink then wrapped a length of ⅛” Real Red Ribbon around the panel, securing it on the back with Sellotape. The panel was then added to a Pool Party card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

Stampin’ Dimensionals were added to the back of the Foil Snowflake and the piece was added to the card front. To finish the card we added a bow made using the ⅛” Real Red Ribbon and adhered it using a Mini Glue Dot.

Gorgeous Santa sweater card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

We used the ‘Santa Sweater’ to make the third card. The image was stamped using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and die cut using a square from the Stitched Shapes framelit dies. The sweater was then coloured in using the Real Red Marker Pen. We added colour to Santa’s glasses using the Crumb Cake ink pad and added colour to Santa’s face using a Calypso Coral Watercolor Pencil and the Blender Pens. He is such a jolly looking chap……. We covered his beard, mustache, eyebrows, hat brim and bobble with a thin coating of Tombow which we spread thinly using a cotton bud and covered it in Dazzling Diamonds Glitter………gorgeous. The stamped panel was added with Tombow to a square of Pool Party cardstock die cut using the Layering Squares dies.

We took a panel of Whisper White 5¼” by 3½”, inserted the lower right hand corner into the Winter Wonder Embossing Folder and ran it through the Big Shot. We then randomly stamped the rest of the panel with the tiny stars from the Star of Light stamp set using Pool Party Ink. Two pieces of ⅛” Real Red Ribbon were then wrapped around the top of the panel and secured with Sellotape on the back. The stamped panel was then added with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The sentiment from the Star of Light stamp set was stamped in Real Red ink onto a scrap of Pool Party cardstock, the end was flagged with scissors and added to the card front with Tombow.

Stamp-a-Stack event featuring Stampin' Up product

Christmas themed Stamp-a-Stacks

Thank you to the lovely ladies who joined me for my Stamp-a-Stack events in September and October. We had a great time and made so many lovely cards.

All the projects were Christmas themed, in my opinion you can never start too early….. There were 5 tables with 2 cards designs on each table, the ladies made 2 of each card giving them a total of 20 cards.

On arrival each lady was given a bag containing a pack of Merry Little Christmas dsp, 20 card bases in co-ordinating colours – Whisper White, Old Olive and Real Red, a spool of ⅛” Real Red ribbon, 20 Whisper White Envelopes and packets of pre-cut card stock layers to make each card. I prepped the packs for the second Stamp-a-Stack when I was in the grip of a migraine and managed to miss-label some of the packs which caused some hilarity. Luckily I always bring spare cardstock and was able to rectify the mix up with no problems.

I then took 2 of the leaf images from the Banners For You stamp set and the smallest leaf from the Colorful Seasons stamp set and randomly stamped them onto the die cut label using Old Olive, Crushed Curry and Cherry Cobbler inks. To get a depth of colour I used 1st & 2nd generation stamping. To fill in some of the gaps I used the dotty image from the Banners For You stamp set and Pumpkin Pie ink. I die cut a 2nd label in the same size from Crushed Curry cardstock, cut it across the middle with my Paper Trimmer and glued it to the stamped piece using Tombow Liquid Adhesive with the some of the colour showing at the top and the bottom.

I ran a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” through the Big Shot with the Layered Leaves Textured Embossing Folder before adhering the piece to the front of an Old Olive card base.

Gorgeous jewl colours for a good luck card

I stamped the banner from the Banners For You Stamp set in Old Olive ink onto a scrap piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and die cut it out using the Bunch of Banners framelits. I then stamped the greeting from the same stamp set in Cherry Cobbler ink onto the die cut banner. I die cut the banner again from a scrap of Old Olive cardstock and glued the 2 together slightly off set. The banner was then added to the stamped label using Stampin’ Dimensionals before the whole piece was added to the card front using Tombow. To finish the card of I added a scattering of Glitter Enamel Dots.

Love the Autumn colours of this card. I hope my friend likes it and that it brings her luck.

Festive jolly Santa jumper card

Christmas Sweaters featuring a Jolly Santa

I saw a fantastic video on Youtube recently by Brandy Cox, a fab American demonstrator, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOn6qnSxLpg showing some cards she had made using the quirky Christmas Sweaters stamp set. I loved them all but my favourite was the Santa jumper. Here is my take on it.

Seasonal sweater featuring Santa

I stamped the jumper using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and die cut it out using the Stitched Shapes framelits and the Big Shot. I coloured the jumper in using an Old Olive marker, the hat with the Real Red Marker, Santa’s face with the Pink Pirouette Marker, Santa’s glasses with the Sahara Sand Marker and the ribbed area around the neck, cuffs and bottom of the jumper with the Soft Sky Marker.

I followed Brandy’s tip and covered the beard, moustache, eyebrows, rim of the hat and the pompom in Tombow Liquid Adhesive and spread it around using a cotton bud taking care to stay away from the stamped black edge. I then covered the image with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and it looked fabulous, so sparkly. I added this piece to a scalloped square which had been die cut using the Layering Squares dies and Old Olive cardstock.

I took a layer of Real Red cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot with the Winter Wonder embossing folder on the right hand side of the panel. I really love the effect this gives. I stamped the sentiment from the Merry Patterns stamp set in Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and punched it out using the Everyday Label punch. I punched again using a scrap of Old Olive cardstock and mounted the stamped piece on top and slightly offset so that the colour peeked out the bottom.

I added the sentiment to the lower left hand corner of the Real Red panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and added the Santa sweater image over the top using Stampin Dimensionals. The whole panel was then added to a Thick Whisper White card base using Tombow.

I love how sparkly and festive this card is, love it. Thanks for the inspiration Brandy.
