Christmas Lantern Classes

Today I am sharing the Christmas Lantern project designed for my December classes inspired by Jennifer of Évasions Créatives

Colours used to make this project are:

 

To recreate the Christmas lantern, you will need:

Thick Basic White card – 17cm by 14.85cm x 2
Thick Basic White card – 11.2cm by 11.2cm
Dsp – 9.5cm by 7.5cm x 4
Vellum – 8.5cm by 6.5cm x 4
Scrap Shaded Spruce and Gold Foil

 

Take one of the larger pieces of Thick Basic White card measuring 17cm by 14.85cm and score it on the 17cm side at 8cm and 16cm. Turn so the 1cm strip is at the top of the scoring tool and score at 10cm. Repeat with the second panel of the same size.

 

Place one of the scored panels on a Silicon Mat with the 10cm portion at the top. Measure the centre of the two larger panels – 4cm and make a pencil mark. Using a Scoring Tool score from the 4cm mark to the where the vertical and horizontal scorelines meet. Repeat three times, twice in each 8cm panel to form two flat topped triangles. Repeat with the other panel.

 

Measure 1cm from the scoreline forming each triangle – see photograph then use a pencil and a ruler to join the pencil marks. This will give 1cm tabs to help close the top of the lantern.

 

Cut along the pencil lines and remove the top of the 1cm tab, see photograph. Fold and burnish on all the scorelines

 

Glue the panels of designer series paper to the larger front panels – 2 on each cardstock piece. Place the die, from the Nested Essentials Dies in the centre of one of the panels and die cut. Repeat with the remaining 3 panels.

 

Emboss each of the pieces of Vellum with your chosen Embossing Folder. Run a bead of glue around each of the die cut windows, on the back and place the embossed vellum face down to cover the hole. Allow to adhere completely.

 

Place a strip of Tear and tape on both 1cm side tabs and adhere the two panels together and close the lantern.

 

Add glue to alternate 1cm tabs which form the top of the lantern. Squeeze together and hold un position until the glue sets.

 

From scrap Shaded Spruce card die cut the pair of trees from the Scenic Adventure Dies and add to each side of the lantern using Dimensionals. Add a star, die cut from scrap Gold Foil using the Pine Tree trimmings Dies, to the top of one of the trees.

 

Score the 11.2cm square of Basic White card at 1.5cm on all four sides. Cut each corner tab and add glue to close the base. Place a tealight onto the base and cover with the lantern top.

 

A scattering of Gold Shaker Stars completes the project.
