Today I am sharing the misty woods card made for my son-in-laws birthday this week using the Beautiful Tree Dies. This card was inspired by a lovely card made by fellow demonstrator Michelle Zindorff.
Balmy Blue card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – rounded upper left corner Early Espresso card – 5⅜” by 3⅝” – rounded upper left corner Basic White card – 5¼” by 3½” – rounded upper left corner Basic White card – 5½” by 3¾” – rounded upper left corner Early Espresso – 4½” by 3½”
I die cut the tree from the centre of a scrap panel of card stock to use as a stencil. I also die cut the same tree from the Early Espresso panel.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – The Beauty of Friendship stamp set and Beautiful Trees Dies used to make a masculine birthday card
I placed the stencil on the smaller panel of Basic White card and added ink using a Blending Brush starting with Sahara Sand. I moved the stencil and repeated the inking with Crumb Cake ink, moved it again and inked with Soft Suede ink. I repeated the steps to produce the effect of a wood.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – The Beauty of Friendship stamp set and Beautiful Trees Dies used to make a masculine birthday card
I added the ‘ground’ image under each tree in 2nd or 3rd generation Sahara Sand ink and added the ‘grass’ from the Garden Birdhouses stamp set in 2nd and 3rd generation Pear Pizzazz ink.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – The Beauty of Friendship stamp set and Beautiful Trees Dies used to make a masculine birthday card
The sentiment, from the Elegantly Said stamp set was stamped in Early Espresso ink. The die cut Early Espresso tree was then added with liquid glue to the inked panel and the excess trimmed off with scissors.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – The Beauty of Friendship stamp set and Beautiful Trees Dies used to make a masculine birthday card
Using Blending Brushes, I inked around the top of the panel with Balmy Blue ink and around the bottom with Pear Pizzazz ink. The inked panel was added to the Early Espresso panel with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – The Beauty of Friendship stamp set and Beautiful Trees Dies used to make a masculine birthday card
I wrapped a length of Linen Thread around the panel three times before adding the layer to the Balmy Blue card front on Dimensionals.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – The Beauty of Friendship stamp set and Beautiful Trees Dies used to make a masculine birthday card
I really like the soft, misty effect of this card. I hope you like it.

Today I have made a pretty double butterfly card made using alcohol inked vellum left over from my class projects last month (see the post on the 17th September 2021).
To recreate the double butterfly card, you will need:
Magenta Madness card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – rounded upper right corner Daffodil Delight card – 5 ½” by 3 ¾” – rounded upper right corner Basic White card – 5⅜” by 3⅝” – rounded upper right corner Basic White card – 5 ½” by 3 ¾” – rounded upper right corner – for the inside Vellum – big enough to die cut your butterflies
I used Magenta Madness, Dark Pumpkin Pie and Dark Daffodil Delight Blends Alcohol Markers to scribble blocks of colour all over the Vellum taking care not to overlap the colours which would contaminate the lighter colour nibs.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – A pretty double butterfly themed card made using scraps of Vellum which had been inked with alcohol
Using a pipette filled with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and smacked it against a Bone Folder to spray small dots of alcohol all over the Vellum. This allows the ink to start spreading. The Vellum piece was then set aside to dry.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – A pretty double butterfly themed card made using scraps of Vellum which had been inked with alcohol
Using second generation Smoky Slate ink I stamped one of the rectangle images from the Watercolor Shapes stamp set in the centre of the smaller Basic White panel. The dotty image was stamped in full strength Smoky Slate randomly across the stamped rectangle.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – A pretty double butterfly themed card made using scraps of Vellum which had been inked with alcohol
Taking the dry vellum panel and the Brilliant Wings Dies I die cut 2 butterflies. Vellum can be tricky to die cut with a detailed die and I find placing the die, cutting side up gives me the best cut. I used the Take Your Pick Die Brush to get out the fiddly pieces.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – A pretty double butterfly themed card made using scraps of Vellum which had been inked with alcohol
The sentiment from the Artistically Inked stamp set was stamped in Magenta Madness ink. The stamped panel was then glued to the Daffodil Delight layer with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive and added to the Magenta Madness card front using the same liquid glue.
www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – A pretty double butterfly themed card made using scraps of Vellum which had been inked with alcohol
The butterflies were added to the card front on Mini Glue Dots and the card decorated with a trio of 2021 – 2023 In Color Jewels.
I hope you like it.
