Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic stamp sets by Stampin' Up used for the Kissing Technique

Watercolor Wings meets the ‘Kissing Technique’

Today I have been using a couple of our retiring stamp sets Watercolor Wings and Awesomely Artistic, both fabulous, versatile sets.

Kissing Technique

I inked up the large ‘solid butterfly’ image from the Watercolor Wings stamp set in So Saffron ink and inked up the large ‘foliage’ stamp from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set before bringing them together so that the detailed foliage was stamped onto the solid butterfly. This is known as the ‘kissing technique’. Such a striking effect.

I then stamped the solid butterfly onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock which I then die cut using the Bold Butterfly dies and my Big Shot. I stamped the butterfly ‘body’ onto the die cut piece in Real Red ink. I find it easier to line up after I die cut rather than stamping it before die cutting.

I place a panel of  Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” onto the front of a Thick Whisper White card base. I then inked up the foliage image from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set again with the So Saffron ink then rolled the edge around in the Real Red ink to give a two toned look. I stamped the image in the bottom right hand corner and the top left hand corner over lapping the edge of the smaller Whisper White panel.

This panel was then added to a Real Red layer, 5½” by 3¾” using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I laid the die cut butterfly in position and stamped the antennae in So Saffron ink and the spotty trail in So Saffron ink and Real Red ink. The sentiment was stamped in Real Red ink in the lower left hand corner. The whole panel was then added to the Thick Whisper White card base. Finally, the butterfly was added to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

This is such a striking technique, why don’t you give it a try.

Colorful Seasons for a beautiful Summery card

Playing with another new stamp set today it is called Colorful Seasons and as the name suggests it has images which cover the whole year from Spring flowers, through Summer deck chairs, Autumn leaves and Winter snowflakes. What great value for money. There is also a co-ordinating die set called Seasonal Layers which I am not using today.

I cut a panel of Whisper White cardstock and stamped the frame of the deckchair from the Colorful Seasons stamp set in Archival Basic Gray ink. Using Sahara Sand ink I stamped the ‘swooshy’ stamp from the Touches of Texture stamp set to give the illusion of ground under the deckchair. I used the ‘kissing technique’ to add the fun pattern to the cloth of the deckchair. To do this I inked up the solid deckchair cloth image in Blushing Bride ink and inked up the intricate floral stamp from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set and ‘kissed’ the 2 together before stamping the deckchair cloth image onto the stamped frame. Absolutely love this effect, it looks fabulous.

I stamped the small branch in the upper left hand corner using Sahara Sand ink and added the buds in Watermelon Wonder ink, sadly now retired. I rounded the upper right hand corner of the stamped piece and added it, using Tombow Liquid Adhesive to a layer of Basic Gray cardstock. I stamped the sentiment from the Eastern Beauty stamp set in Watermelon Wonder ink onto a layer of Whisper White cardstock, just over half way up and added the stamped piece on Stampin’ Dimensionals just below. This panel was then added to a card base of Watermelon Wonder cardstock.

Awesomely Artistic meets Fabulous Flaming

I absolutely love this card which was made using the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set which was my prize patrol win at Onstage Live in Amsterdam last month. Flamingos’ are really popular in fashion and home décor at the moment, I see them everywhere and was keen to try something a little different.

I chose a piece of Whisper White cardstock, inked up the solid ‘flamingo image’ with Wisteria Wonder ink. I then inked up the large ‘leaf and flower image’ from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set with Elegant Eggplant ink and stamped it down on the inked up flamingo body. This is known as the ‘kissing’ technique and allows ink and pattern to transfer onto a solid image. I then stamped the patterned flamingo body onto the Whisper White panel. Wow………it looked amazing.

To go along with the slightly psychedelic flamingo I chose to stamp the reeds and leafy boughs with Melon Mambo ink. The resulting image was so bright and powerful, loved it. Using Tombow Liquid Adhesive I mounted the stamped panel onto a piece of Melon Mambo cardstock having rounded the upper right corner on both pieces. I laid this panel onto the front of a Thick Whisper White card base to work out my positioning before stamping the sentiment from the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set in Melon Mambo ink.

I felt the card base needed something to pull the whole thing together and decided to add the ‘leaf and flower image’ from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set in Elegant Eggplant ink in the upper left corner. It was absolutely the right thing to do, it looked amazing. I added the flamingo panel to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals to finish the card.
