An embossed Christmas card and using the Adorning Designs Decorative Masks by Stampin' Up!

Adorning Designs for the Ink and Inspirations Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the Ink and Inspiration Blog Hop where we are showcasing tools. I have chosen to use the Adorning Designs Decorative Masks to make a pretty embossed and inked Christmas card.

Colours used in these projects are:

To recreate the Adorning Christmas card, you will need:

Highland Heather card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛”
Coastal Cabana card – 5⅝” by 3⅞”
Basic White card – 6” by 6” which I later cut down to 5½” by 3¾”
Basic White card – 5½” by 3¾” for the inside
Basic White card – 3” by 2”

I often forget about our masks but when I remember to use them, I love them. They are so versatile -did you know you can dry emboss using masks? This is only one of the cool techniques you can use masks for.

I chose the snowflake mask for my project today and if we are talking about tools, as well as the Masks I am using our great Blending Brushes

Firstly, I chose the snowflake mask from the Adorning Designs Decorative Masks set. I knew I wanted to emboss my cardstock using the mask but wasn’t quite sure how to do it. After a bit of trial and error I found that the best combination was:

Stampin Cut & Emboss Machine
Base plate (1)
Clear acrylic plate (3)
Silicon Mat
Basic White card
Mask
Gray 3D Embossing Plate (4)

I kept the mask in place on top of the card stock, taped the mask down to some Grid Paper to hold it still and began to add colour using Blending Brushes.

Beginning at the bottom I applied Pool Party ink – I think my Blending Brush wasn’t clean as it looks like Granny Apple Green!

Next, I added Coastal Cabana ink, followed by Fresh Freesia ink and finally Highland Heather ink. I removed the mask and cut the panel down to 5½” by 3¾” using my Paper Trimmer.

Using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive, I glued the embossed panel to the Coastal Cabana card layer.

I wrapped a length of Gorgeous Grape Sheer Ribbon around the panel, securing it on the back with Sellotape and added the whole panel to the Highland Heather card base on Dimensionals.

The sentiment, from the Christmas to Remember stamp set was stamped on the small piece of Basic White card in Highland Heather ink. I used the Seasonal Labels dies to cut the sentiment out.

I added the label to the card front, over the ribbon and secured it down with Mini Glue Dots.

To complete the card, I added a bow made from the same ribbon and a trio of Pastel Pearls.

I made a second card in the same way but this time when the mask was removed, I added the left-over colour on the Blending Brushes to the background.

This panel was added to a Gorgeous Grape panel and then to a Thick Basic White card base.

Isn’t this a cool effect? Let me know which version you prefer.

Leaping Deer Christmas Card

This is a sweet leaping deer themed Christmas card made using the Peaceful Deer stamp set, Deer Builder Punch and the Peaceful Prints dsp.

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the leaping deer card, you will need:

Crumb Cake card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛”
Peaceful Prints dsp – 5¼” by 3⅝”
Basic Black card – 4¾” by 3”
Peaceful Prints dsp – 4⅝” by 2⅞”
Basic White card – 3” by 3”
Crumb Cake strip – ½”
Basic White strip – ⅜”
Scrap Crumb Cake

I began by choosing 2 patterns from the gorgeous Peaceful Prints dsp, can’t believe this is one of the free Sale-a-Bration choices you can opt for with a £45 order. The larger panel was glued to the Crumb Cake card base using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Using a scalloped circle from the layering Circle Dies and my Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine I die cut a scalloped circle from the middle of the Basic Black layer. I love doing this, it makes the most of my card stock and no-one (but you) will ever know!

The second panel of dsp was added, using the same liquid glue to the Basic Black layer (with the whole in the middle) and was added to the card front with the same glue.

I die cut a slightly smaller circle from the square of Basic White card using the same set of dies and ran it through the Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine inside the Wintry 3D Duo Embossing Folder. Gives a subtle level of texture to the piece. The embossed circle was added to the scalloped Basic Black circle and then placed on the card front on Dimensionals.

The deer image was stamped in Soft Suede ink onto a scrap of Crumb Cake card and punched out using the Deer Builder Punch. I added it to the embossed circle with liquid glue. I decorated the circle with a trio of Red Rhinestones.

The sentiment was stamped in Real Red ink onto the strip of Basic White card. This was trimmed down before being mounted onto the Crumb Cake strip and added with liquid glue to the card front.

Sweet card, I hope you agree.

Christmas Robin

My Mum loves a Christmas Robin and I made this card for her. Sadly she has dementia and no longer recognises us when we visit but I hope this cheerful robin will bring a smile to her face.

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the Christmas Robin card, you will need:

Old Olive card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛”
Soft Suede card – 4⅝” by 3⅛”
Fluid 100 watercolor card – 4½” by 3”
Poppy Parade card – 5⅞” by 2⅛”
Very Vanilla card – 5½” by 3¾”
Very Vanilla scrap

We Brits. are so happy to have a Robin stamp, it is such an iconic bird here is the UK and especially so at Christmas. I mounted the lovely robin image onto one of the Stamparatus plates, inked it up with Sahara Sand ink and stamped in onto the small panel of Fluid 100 watercolor card. Because this card has a textured surface, I like to use the Stamparatus in case I need to stamp the image a second time.

I used the following colours to watercolor the robin – Sahara Sand, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Gray Granite, Old Olive & Poppy Parade. I added a little of each colour to an acrylic block and used a Water Painter to pick up the ink and apply it to the bird. Doing it this was means that I can blend inks together to achieve different shades of colour.

The eye of the bird was outlined using a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Maker and I used a Chalk Marker to add the highlight to the eye.I flagged both ends of the Poppy Parade strip and added it to the Old Olive card base with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Using the Stamparatus again, I stamped the sentiment from the Christmas to Remember stamp set in Poppy Parade ink. I repeated the inking and stamping to get a darker colour. The stamped panel was then added to the Soft Suede layer with the same liquid glue. The topper was then added to the card front on Dimensionals.

I tied a large bow using the Gold Elegant Trim and added it to the card front using a Dimensional. The holly was stamped in Old Olive ink and coloured using Old Olive and Poppy Parade ink and my Water Painters. The coloured image was then fussy cut using scissors and added over the bow using Mini Dimensionals.

I love this card; I think my water colouring needs a bit of work but the bird is so pretty. I hope you like it
