Sneak Peek – Fabulous Flamingo

Whilst I was at Onstage Live in Amsterdam earlier this month I won a new stamp set called Fabulous Flamingo in a prize patrol. I have to admit, my first thought was ‘what on earth am I going to do with this’. I think my team mates were having very similar thoughts as well………..So today I got the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set out and started to play.

When I have a new stamp set I usually ink up all of the images and stamp them onto scrap paper or the fantastic Stampin’ Up! Grid Paper. This lets me see what the images look like and how they fit together, especially if the image is made of multiple layers. It took me a while to work out how the flamingo builds up and the various options available. Then I was ready to make a card.

The first card was pretty straightforward. I stamped the ‘feathery outline’ image from the stamp set using Soft Suede ink onto a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock. I then inked up the ‘solid body’ image with Crushed Curry Ink, stamped it once on my Grid Paper and then onto the ‘feathery image’ give a paler golden shade.  Next I covered the legs of the ‘full flamingo’ image with a post it note, inked up the main body part with the Crushed Curry ink, I didn’t want yellow legs! I removed the post it note and stamped the image, full strength over the top of the images I have previously stamped. I then stamped the separate ‘leg’ image in Soft Suede ink. The flamingo was now complete and looked great.

I added the water using Marina Mist ink, reeds using Garden Green ink and the leafy bough using Crumb Cake ink. I layered the stamped panel onto a strip of Delightful Dijon cardstock using Tombow Liquid Adhesive I took a Crumb Cake card base and stamped the ‘leaf’ image down the right hand side using Crumb Cake ink before adding the Flamingo panel using Stampin’ Dimensionals! It looked a little plain so, I added Clear Wink of Stella to the body of the Flamingo after all, everything looks better with a bit of bling.
