Cookie Cutter Christmas Class

October went by so quickly I forgot to show the projects the ladies made during the October classes. We used the fabulous Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp set and the co-ordinating Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. This bundle has turned out to be so popular.

crafty-rootes.com – Stampin Up Cookie Cutter Christmas

For the first card we stamped the sweet little Rudolph image using Crumb Cake ink on Crumb Cake cardstock. We rounded the top right corner using the Project Life Corner Rounder. The panel was then added to a Real Red cardstock layer with a rounded upper right corner and the whole piece added to a Thick Whisper White card base. A piece of retired Bermuda Bay dsp was added – you could use the current Brights Designer Paper Stack – to the front of the card. We stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set in Real Red ink onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock and added this onto the Bermuda Bay piece. The Rudolph image was stamped again in Crumb Cake onto a scrap of Whisper White and punched using the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch along with the small bow which was stamped in Bermuda Bay ink and added using Tombow adhesive. The Gold Wink of Stella Pen gave Rudolph shimmery antlers and we gave him a Red Glimmer red nose. A small Red Glimmer star was punched out using the Star Confetti Punch and added to the sentiment.

1-dscf8253For the second card we embossed a piece of Real Red Cardstock using the Cable Knit Embossing Folder, this gives such a cool 3D effect, gorgeous. The gingerbread people were stamped in Crumb Cake and Early Espresso ink onto Crumb Cake cardstock and punched out using the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. We stamped the bows in Real Red and Bermuda Bay onto scraps of Whisper White before punching. 2 of the punched Red Glimmer stars were added as buttons to the Crumb Cake image. The gingerbread people were added to a Delicate White Doily. The sentiment was stamped in Bermuda Bay ink onto Whisper White cardstock and added to the bottom of the card…….gorgeous.

1-dscf8254The 3rd project is a hanging gift card holder which will look great on the Christmas Tree. The gift card is die cut using the Gift Card Envelope Framelit and the Big Shot. We stamped all over the die cut piece using the snowflake stamp from the Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set and 2nd generation Bermuda Bay ink. The Santa image was stamped in Archival Basic Black ink and coloured in using Real Red, Blushing Bride and Basic Black markers. The buckle was added with the Gold Wink of Stella Pen before punching out the image with the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. We die cut a circle from Pool Party Cardstock and a scalloped circle from Real Red cardstock using the Layered Circle Dies. The Pool Party circle was stamped with 2nd generation Bermuda Bay ink before adding to the Real Red layer and the santa added with dimensionals. The Top flap of the gift card holder was punched with the ¼” Hand Held Punch, Linen Thread looped though with a strip of Gold Sequin Trim added for a bit of bling. We added a strip of retired gold washi tape and some punched Red Glimmer stars.

Totally Trees – Thinking of You

October hasn’t been a great month for my family. One of my lovely uncles died after a long battle with cancer and the day before his funeral we were told another uncle and his younger son have also been diagnosed with this horrible disease. I wanted to send my uncle and cousin a message of support as they start their chemotherapy journeys.

I had recently seen a YouTube video by Jenny Hall (of jennystampsup.com) using the Painter’s Palette stamp set with the set called Sheltering Tree – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCuv7CyCeho – I decided to CASE (copy and share everything) the card using the Totally Trees stamp set which was still out on my table.

1-dscf8441I stamped the artist’s easel from the Painter’s Palette stamp set using Archival Basic Black ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock. A square of Very Vanilla, exactly the same size as the interior of the easel was die cut using the Layering Squares Framelit dies.

The trees were stamped in Soft Suede ink onto this small Very Vanilla panel. I added the autumnal leaves by stamping the tiny spray of leaves in Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green, Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie and Delightful Dijon inks. I added the ground at the base of the trees using 3rd generation Garden Green ink. The stamped panel was added to the easel using dimensionals.

1-dscf8442The sentiment comes from the Rose Wonder stamp set and was stamped using Archival Basic Black ink below the easel. The whole panel was added to a layer of Basic Black cardstock leaving a ⅛” border, then added to the Crumb Cake card base using Tombow adhesive.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. Hope you like the project I shared and that you will drop by again soon

Totally Trees – Happy Anniversary

Totally Trees is a gorgeous stamp set from the Autumn/Winter catalogue which totally passed me by on my first look through. How did that happen……. To be honest I probably got side-tracked by all the gorgeous Christmas stuff….

This week I needed to make an anniversary card for some friends. They love their garden and are big fans of being outdoors so Totally Trees seemed like a perfect choice.

1-dscf8446The 4 trees were stamped in a line in Chocolate Chip Ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock. I stamped trees 1 and 4 first as this gave me better spacing for trees 2 and 3. I wanted to show the tree in all seasons, starting with spring I planned to

Tree 1 – Spring, the leaves were stamped in Pear Pizzazz ink and tiny blossoms were added using the small spray of leaves and Pink Pirouette ink. Tree 2 – Summer, the leaves are stamped using Cucumber Crush ink. In hindsight I would probably use Garden Green which is less bright. Tree 3 – Autumn, I used the small spray of leaves again and Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green, Delightful Dijon and Pumpkin Pie Inks. Tree 4 – Winter, as many trees are deciduous I left this tree leafless.

1-dscf8445I ‘grounded’ the trees using 3rd generation Chocolate Chip Ink and stamped the sentiment, which comes from the Banners For You stamp set, using Delightful Dijon ink. The stamped piece was then added to a mat of Delightful Dijon cardstock and this panel was added with dimensionals to a Thick Whisper White card base.

1-dscf8444I loved this card and this stamp set. I have so many ideas for Totally Trees again. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. Hope you like the project I shared and that you will drop by again soon

Stitched With Cheer

In this years’ Autumn – Winter Catalogue there is a great kit called the Stitched With Cheer Project Kit containing 18 cards to make each including an element of hand stitching which is so fashionable this year. In addition to the kit there is an accompanying stamp set.

Today, I decided to have a play with this set, also called Stitched With Cheer. It contains lots of lovely seasonal sentiments and many small images including snowflakes, stars, trees and holly leaves.

I used Crumb Cake cardstock for all 3 card bases and stamped onto Very Vanilla cardstock using the 3 snowflake images from the set. I used Crumb Cake, Delightful Dijon (1st and 2nd generation) and Chocolate Chip ink to stamp the images.

1-dscf8428

In the 1st card I layered the Very Vanilla stamped piece onto a panel of Delightful Dijon cardstock before adhering it to the card base using Tombow Glue. The sentiment was die cut using the Bunch of Banners framelits and added with dimensionals and added some of the Gold Metallic Enamel Shapes.

1-dscf8429

I added a panel of retired Bohemian dsp to the Crumb Cake card base with Tombow. The stamped panel of Very Vanilla was added with dimensionals and after wrapping some of the gold metallic thread from the Bakers Twine Trio Pack around and tying it into a small bow with long tails.

1-dscf8430

To the 3rd card base I added a strip of Gold Glimmer card and a piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock to the left hand side. The Very Vanilla stamped panel was added with Tombow after adding a wrap of the gold bakers twine.

I am really happy with these cards and can’t wait to try the 3 small tree stamps.

Happy Anniversary Vintage Leaves

Today is my husband David and I’s anniversary, 32 years and it was a day very similar to today, cool and crisp but very sunny with beautiful light. Not that I was particularly aware of that on the day, I just remember being so thankful it wasn’t raining.

David loves nature and likes simple cards, nothing mucked about with. With that in mind I got out the Vintage Leaves stamp set and Leaflets Framelit dies and set about making him a card. I took as my inspiration a card made by the fabulous Dena Rekow of The Creativity Cave which involves a technique called ‘faux watercolour’. Here is the link to her technique video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVMJStokKwQ

1-dscf8384I stamped the leaves onto the lower ⅔’s of a piece of Watercolour cardstock in Wild Wasabi ink. To give different shades of the same colour I stamped again without re-inking and then again to get three progressively light shades of the same colour, this technique is called first, second and third generation stamping. Whilst each leaf was still damp I painted over it with an Aquapainter filled with plain water. Love the soft, subtle effect this gives to the leaves.

1-dscf8385I added a piece of retired Wild Wasabi seam-binding ribbon to the stamped panel and mounted the panel onto a piece of the gorgeous Copper Foil cardstock then onto a Wild Wasabi card base.  Carrying on the Copper theme, I stamped two of the leaves in Versamark ink, added Copper Embossing Powder and used my heat tool to melt the powder. The leaves were then die cut using the Leaflet Framelit dies. I added some Linen Thread to tie the stems of the leaves together and added them to the ribbon with a small wooden leaf from the retired Into The Woods elements. The sentiment comes from the Banners For You stamp set.

I am really happy with this card. Thank you for the inspiration Dena.

Cookie Cutter Mummy

So, trawling through my stamp sets looking for inspiration this morning – I need to make a get well card for a friend having surgery – my eye was caught by the Cookie Cutter Halloween stamp set. I bought this set on a whim as I have loved using the Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp set and the co-ordinating Cookie Cutter Builder punch and the punch goes with the Halloween set as well………what’s not to like. However, in the UK we are really not big on Halloween so this set has been sitting on the shelf gathering dust.  But, the little mummy image wrapped in bandages seemed perfect for a get well card.

1-dscf8277For the first card I used a Thick Whisper White card base and stamped the little mummy image from the Cookie Cutter Halloween stamp set using Basic Black Archival ink onto a scrap of Whisper White and punched it out with the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch. I then took my Smoky Slate inkpad and an Aquapainter and added some shadows to the bandages, really simple but so effective, then I coloured the little face with a Blushing Bride marker pen.

1-dscf8278I cut a panel of Whisper White cardstock and stamped the sentiment from the Designer Tin of Cards stamp set in Watermelon Wonder ink. I stamped the a cluster of small stars using a stamp from the  same set using the same inkpad on the top right and bottom left of the panel and adhered the mummy image on top with Tombow liquid adhesive. Using the Project Life Corner Rounder I rounded the top left and bottom right corners and mounted this whole piece onto a panel of Island Indigo card stock. I added this panel to the card base over to the left side with Stampin Dimensionals and slid three thin scraps of card – Watermelon Wonder, Island Indigo and Garden Green -with banner ends underneath for some added interest. I loved how this card turned out.

1-dscf8279

For the 2nd card and stamped the mummy in Basic Black Archival in the bottom right hand corner of a piece of Whisper White cardstock and coloured it in the same way as the previous card. I added a little Smoky Slate to the bottom of the stamped image to ‘ground’ it. The sentiment is from the My Hero stamp set and is stamped in Watermelon Wonder ink. Using the Cookie Cutter Builder punch and a scrap of Watermelon Wonder cardstock I punched out a tiny heart and added it to the image with a dab of Tombow liquid adhesive before mounting the whole panel onto the Tip Top Taupe card base. I really love all the white space on this card.

1-dscf8281For the 3rd card I stamped, punched and coloured the image in exactly the same way as for the 1st card. I then stamped the umbrella image from the My Hero stamp set using Perfect Plum ink onto Whisper White cardstock and added the handle in Basic Black Archival ink.  I stamped the handle again on a scrap of Whisper White and fussy cut the end with a pair of scissors before adhering it to the mummy’s hand and adding the mummy to the stamped panel with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I mounted the stamped panel onto a layer of Perfect Plum cardstock before adding it to the Tip Top Taupe card base. As a final touch I added a little Smoky Slate ink with an Aquapainter so that he was dangling in mid-air. Loved this card also.

Jar of Love

This week’s class projects used the gorgeous Jar of Love stamp set and co-ordinating Every Day Jars Framelit dies. Jar of Love is such a great value set with 37 beautiful and very versatile photopolymer stamps and if you add the 17 framelit dies in the Every Day Jars set and you have an absolute bargain.

1-DSCF7933The first card is a straight forward jar full of flowers. We used the medium sized jar and stamped it with Smoky Slate ink. The foliage was stamped directly over the jar using Pear Pizzazz and Wild Wasabi ink; we also added some extra stems by partly inking the foliage stamps to give a fuller effect. We added the water in 2nd generation Soft Sky ink and the twine effect wrap around bow in Night of Navy.

The larger flowers were stamped in So Saffron & Real Red and Sweet Sugarplum 1st & 2nd generation. The smaller flowers in Perfect Plum 1st & 2nd generation and Peakaboo Peach 1st & 2nd generation. The little sprigs of flowers was stamped in Perfect Plum. All of these were then die cut using the Every Day Jars Framelits and the BigShot. All that was left to do was a little flower arranging, the flowers were added using dimensionals and the sprigs using Tombow. The greeting was then stamped in Night of Navy ink. The whole panel was added to a piece of Night of Navy cardstock then adhered to a Thick Whisper White cardbase.

1-DSCF7934For the second card we stamped the smallest jar in Smoky Slate ink onto a small panel of Whisper White cardstock and added the handle. The water was stamped in 2nd generation Soft Sky. We stamped the fish using Peakaboo Peach ink, die cut it out then added Clear Wink of Stella to make it shimmer. We stamped the bow in Night of Navy and die cut it out. Using the bubble image from the Playful Backgrounds stamp set we added Night of Navy bubble to the Soft Sky card base and the stamped Whisper White panel. We rounded opposite corners of the stamped panel using the Project Life Corner rounder. Using the Banner Triple Punch to flag the ends of the Whisper White and Night of Navy pieces and adhered then onto the card base using Tombow. The stamped panel was added using dimensionals.

1-DSCF7935The third card used a Thick Whisper White card base. We stamped the group of stars from the Perpetual Birthday calendar stamp set using Peakaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum and So Saffron ink. The large jar and the jar lid were stamped in Smoky Slate Ink. The outside and inside of the jar plus the lid were then die cut, we also die cut the jar from a piece of Window Sheet. Using a thin drizzle of Tombow glue we adhered the Window Sheet die cut to the back of the jar frame then added the lid to the front. We wrapped the Night of Navy twine around the top and tied a small bow. The ladies loved the new dimensional strips we added to the back of the die cut jar; they are so flexible and easy to use. We added some star shaped, sugar cake decorations onto the stamped card front roughly where the jar was going to go to check position, so kind of Morrison’s to provide them in just the right colours for the card….. When we were happy the backing of the dimensional strip was removed and the jar placed over top of the stars. The whole panel was then added to a layer of Night of Navy then to the Thick Whisper White cardbase.

I absolutely love this set, so many pieces to play with and so much you can do with it.

Hope you like the projects and visit again soon.

Watercolor Wings classes

Lovely classes this month using the Watercolor Wings stamp set and the Bold Butterfly and Basic Butterfly framelits. We made a lovely ‘book style’ box with 4 matching cards and envelopes.

1-DSCF7829I really wanted to use Sweet Sugarplum as my main accent colour and much to my surprise ended up choosing Chocolate Chip cardstock for the box itself. Chocolate Chip is my least used shade of brown, don’t know why but it really goes well with the sugarplum, the colours look gorgeous together.

1-DSCF7830The inside pockets of the box were made using Sweet Sugarplum cardstock. The right pockets holds 4 decorated cards using the same stamp set and the left pocket holds 4 co-ordinating envelopes.

1-DSCF7832The card bases are made using Thick Whisper White cardstock. Each card has a panel of either Chocolate Chip cardstock or Sweet Sugarplum cardstock. The images are stamped in Blushing Bride, Sweet Sugarplum and Chocolate Chip ink onto regular Whisper White cardstock and I added some iridescent sequins from my stash for a bit of sparkle.

1-DSCF7829We die cut a butterfly for the front of the box using my Big Shot and added a Vellum filigree die cut butterfly over the top to give added dimension. The box is closed using some of the gorgeous Sweet Sugarplum ruched ribbon which ties beautifully.

Building Foxy Friends

Oh my word………… I have finally had time to try out the Foxy Friends stamp set and the Fox Builder Punch and I LOVE them.

1-DSCF7914For the first card I kept it simple stamping the fox in Cajun Craze ink onto a small piece of Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the head again onto a piece of scrap Whisper White and punched it out with the Fox Builder punch. I stamped the wider of the ‘faces’ with Basic Black Archival ink and added it to the stamped fox using Dimensionals. So cute, I love him …. and it is definitely a him. I rounded the upper left hand corner and stamped the sentiment from the Banners For You stamp set using the Basic Black Archival ink. I layered the stamped piece onto some Cajun Craze cardstock leaving a 1/8” border.

1-DSCF7915Using the new Petal Burst embossing folder, I ran a 2” wide piece of Crumb Cake cardstock through the Big Shot. I adhered a thin strip of Cajun Craze down the long side of the debossed side of the Crumb Cake panel then added it to the left side of a Thick Whisper White card base before adding the stamped panel with dimensionals.

1-DSCF7916I made a landscape version for my second card. I added a thin piece of Old Olive cardstock to the embossed Crumb Cake panel and stuck it to the Thick Whisper White card base. I stamped the walking fox image in Cajun Craze and the tree trunk in Soft Suede onto scrap Whisper White card and fussy cut them out using scissors. The tree trunk was added to the card base with Tombow adhesive and the fox with Dimentionals. The mushrooms were stamped in Blushing Bride, Crumb Cake and Soft Suede ink.

1-DSCF7920The third fox was stamped in Calypso Coral ink and Basic Black Archival ink with the legs added in Soft Suede. I used a 2” punch to cut out the image. I backed this panel onto a circle cut from Soft Suede cardstock using the Layered Circles Framelits. The dsp comes from a retired pack called Best Year Ever and was added to a thin strip of Soft Suede card. I wrapped Linen Thread around the dsp panel before sticking it to a Crumb Cake base. The stamped circle was added with dimensionals. I stamped the sentiment from the Baby Bear stamp set in Soft Suede ink.

I really, really, really like this stamp set and its co-ordinating punch, so many other creatures to make. Watch out for more projects using this in the future.

Places You’ll Go

We have had some very good news this past weekend. Our son, after a long and difficult journey and subject to a final medical, has been offered a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.  Whoop whoop…….this is the first step to his becoming an officer in the Army and because it’s what I do I wanted to make him a card to congratulate him.

1-DSCF7983I chose the Places You’ll Go stamp set which seems appropriate and stamped the stand image in Basic Black Archival ink onto a piece of Whisper White card. The globe image was then stamped in Island Indigo ink, love photopolymer stamps, so much easier to line everything up. I thought it looked a bit bare so added some spots in Cucumber Crush, Pool Party and Chocolate Chip ink using the splatter stamp from the Timeless Textures stamp set. I added the sentiment in Island Indigo ink below the stamped image and as an accent I added a strip of Blooms and Bliss dsp to the bottom of the stamped panel.

I adhered the stamped panel to a smaller but longer piece of Basic Black card; I think it looks really quirky. I rounded the upper right corner of the stamped piece to balance it out before adding the whole piece to the Island Indigo card base.

1-DSCF7950I made a second version with a piece of retired Lost Lagoon washi tape instead of the dsp.

I hope you like the cards.
