Happy Anniversary Vintage Leaves

Today is my husband David and I’s anniversary, 32 years and it was a day very similar to today, cool and crisp but very sunny with beautiful light. Not that I was particularly aware of that on the day, I just remember being so thankful it wasn’t raining.

David loves nature and likes simple cards, nothing mucked about with. With that in mind I got out the Vintage Leaves stamp set and Leaflets Framelit dies and set about making him a card. I took as my inspiration a card made by the fabulous Dena Rekow of The Creativity Cave which involves a technique called ‘faux watercolour’. Here is the link to her technique video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVMJStokKwQ

1-dscf8384I stamped the leaves onto the lower ⅔’s of a piece of Watercolour cardstock in Wild Wasabi ink. To give different shades of the same colour I stamped again without re-inking and then again to get three progressively light shades of the same colour, this technique is called first, second and third generation stamping. Whilst each leaf was still damp I painted over it with an Aquapainter filled with plain water. Love the soft, subtle effect this gives to the leaves.

1-dscf8385I added a piece of retired Wild Wasabi seam-binding ribbon to the stamped panel and mounted the panel onto a piece of the gorgeous Copper Foil cardstock then onto a Wild Wasabi card base.  Carrying on the Copper theme, I stamped two of the leaves in Versamark ink, added Copper Embossing Powder and used my heat tool to melt the powder. The leaves were then die cut using the Leaflet Framelit dies. I added some Linen Thread to tie the stems of the leaves together and added them to the ribbon with a small wooden leaf from the retired Into The Woods elements. The sentiment comes from the Banners For You stamp set.

I am really happy with this card. Thank you for the inspiration Dena.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. Hope you like the project I shared and that you will drop by again soon.
